I don't iron bedding either but a friend recently told me that the steam from the iron will actually kill any dust mites that wernt killed in the wash cycle!
Has anyone else heard this?love my little man he is amazing :j0 -
I understand that they don't like high temps, or very low ones. There are probably better sites around but the one in the link makes interesting reading and has a link to other dust mite items at the bottom of the page.

BlondeHeadOn wrote:I knew one oldish lady (a neighbour) who lived alone, and used to rotate her bedding in the following way (using a double bed):
Week 1: Sleep on left hand side of bed all week
Week 2: Swap over and sleep on right hand side of bed all week (as this bit is still clean
Week 3: Change bottom sheet, turn duvet over (so the bit of duvet cover next to you skin is now 'clean' again), swap pillows over so the pillowcases slept on are now underneath, pillowcases not directly slept on are now on top, sleep on left hand side of bed all week
Week 4: Swap over and sleep on right hand side of bed all week
End of week 4: take all bedding off and wash and dry, then start cycle again.
This used to amuse me no end, but she always stuck to the same 4-week cycle! She was pretty good at saving money in other ways too.
:rotfl: that made me lol big time0 -
That info is good, thanks squeaky! :Tlove my little man he is amazing :j0

actually my mother used to do a similar routine. week 1 everything clean. week 2 swop bottom sheet from feet to head end, same with top sheet. week 3 swop top sheet with bottom sheet .week 4 turn sheets ie bit you lie on now next to matteress.Very complicated but every wednesday it was sheet rotation!!! She thinks I am very strange that I wash mine once a week but think I will do every two weeks until summer. Try to wash them on a dry day as like to dry them outside as the duvet easier to iron. Never iron sheets can't see the point.0

Monday is wash day in our house but as I work every other week (job share) there's only a certain amount I can do on the work week. So, I wash all the dirty clothes and towels that are generated by 2 adults and 2 toddlers on my work week and clothes, towels and bedding on my non-work week.
This is my complicated way of saying that I wash the bedding fornightly! :rotfl: Unless of course like this week the 2 littlies have the D&V bug then the washer is doing overtime."all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time..."0 -
I change ours every two weeks and we are always away two nights of that, more if nessasary, ie if we have a passionate night! :rotfl: (why do men seem to get excited by clean fresh bedding!!? Grrrr!)
If I washed them every week I'd never keep on top of all the washing & drying! I always iron duvet covers & pillowcase but never fitted sheets. We also shower/bathe once if not twice a day.
I also have anti bac mattress and pillow protectors on all the beds which I wash every month or so. Once yearly, during the summer I wash all the pillows (I stitched a cross in the middle to keep the stuffing in place, better with really good quality pillows) and let them dry flat. I vaccuum the bed (yes - stand on the bed with my dyson rather than use tools) and turn the mattress about every 6 mths.

I once read somewhere that a good way to prevent dust mites etc. was throwing back your covers in the morning and letting your bed go cold, rather than making your bed straight away and leaving them with a warm environment to breed in. To be honest, I couldn't care less about the dustmites, but what a fantastic excuse for not making the bed!0

Blasted MSE - you've just reminded hubby the bed needs changing. I was hoping to get away with not washing it for another two weeks at least
