Hi Emma
Just to say as well to keep everything now in writing, as unless you are recording the phone calls they can deny that they told you that you would get a refund. If you have an email address use that and ask them to confirm to your email address imediately that they are returning the money.
Don't forget Mr J Cunliffe is a Director and he will have the final say. So try tomorrow to get an email from them confirming that the refund is going to happen.
And it is the MOJ not MJO...
All the best Tuttsi
We have 2 emails confirming the refund. My OH sent the pack off today recorded signed for so we know they'll get it and don't deny they never received it.2013 wins: Persil Bunny0 -
I was contacted a few weeks ago by a Welsh based company called Cento Client Review who claim they can write off my entire Northern Rock loan balance (£18,000) due to a loop-hole they have discovered which means that my original loan agreement was void. Has anyone else dealt with these people and if so, what were your experiences? I have already paid them an administration fee of £79.95 and the last contact from them via telephone a week or so ago was to say that I had a very good case and that it could be rushed through in 14 days after receipt of the consent forms (which I sent back straight after receiving them). They explained that what would happen is that once the ball starts rolling, I would have to pay their solicitor my monthly loan payment of £285 instead of it going to the loan company, for a maximum of 6 months and then after that if my claim was thrown out, that money would be paid back to Northern Rock anyway. What I'm concerned with is that after 6 months I'm going to get an irrate letter from Northern Rock asking for their missing £1710 back and Cento will have done a runner with my loan payments...
This company (Cento Client review) have also contacted me 8th Feb 2010 stating they could help me to reclaim PPI, have my credit card balance taken to zero on the grounds that the limit was raised without me signing or a further credit check being done and getting remuneration from the broker who sorted out my remortgage on the grounds their fee was paid through the new mortgage, so I will now be paying interest on it for the duration of the mortgage.
I thought wow at last there is a way for members of the public, that have been targeted by the unscrupulous financial organisations that are using legal loopholes to; in my opinion legally steal from us; to get these monies back. I have never heard of the ways to do this yourself that I now find on this site.
Anyway to cut a long story short I listened to the rep, who asked for £299.99 up front and to put it on my credit card seeing as this would be brought to zero; in addition if successful they would charge a fee of 30% ouch, but beggars can’t be choosers.
I was a bit dubious about the initial admin charge, but seeing as my credit limit on the card may not have been enough to cover this amount I wasn’t concerned; on application the credit card company would decline. How wrong was I? The credit card company accepted it and have now sent me a letter stating I had seriously gone over my credit limit and they now want the entire amount paid off immediately or they will take it to a debt collection agency, plus my credit facilities have been removed.
I am now in the process of cancelling the arrangement with Cento, trying to do it carefully so they cannot find a way to stop the refunding the initial admin charge. It also seems I now have to try to placate the credit card company not to take legal steps against me due to this company.
I wish now I had researched reclaiming before I took this step, because it has caused me even more stress and anxiety than I had before and that was bad enough. I had my hours cut drastically at work in September 09 and I am finding it really difficult to manage; this is causing me to get bank charges because of unauthorised overdrafts.:mad:
Though unlike some people these charges are not tiered; monies coming in pay off the unauthorised overdrafts plus the charges, but this reduces the money I have to pay off the next instalments etc, which as you can imagine is not enough and the whole process starts all over again. For instance between 15th and 19th dec 09 I paid charges of £210.00 and that’s just December.
Any advice would be welcomed but this is mainly to inform others who find themselves in this position; about the dangers of dealing with companies like this. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
I apologise for the length of this post! And thank anyone in advance for any advice given.0 -
Hi Kenneth
I am sorry to hear of your problems.
Deal with one thing at a time, by getting back your money from Cento, which I take it that you have emailed them and have sent back the pack by special / recorded delivery.
You can start to also do some research by looking up the PPI threads here and on Legal Beagles where members have been sucessfull in reclaiming PPI which was mis-sold.
Bank charges is a greyish area at the moment because of the OFT test case and the supreme court judgement. Both this site and the other sites are working towards a solution. In the mean time have a good read arround the various forums both here and Legal Beagles where you will find a wealth on information and will give you a better insight as to what is happening.
However, if you have credit card charges these are easily reclaimed without too much effort and some peeps have had refunds as quickly as 9 days with barclaycard.

thanks milly88 for the advice, I agree small steps! I have emailed them cancelling the arrangement and the paperwork will be sent back on Monday. my biggest problem at the mo is the one of the demand from the credit card company of payment in full or legal action will be taken. I don't have that kind of money and I should never have been put in this position by Cento.0

You should complain to the MoJ about the claims they made. Some of which had no chance of success. e.g. mortgage broker remuneration - nothing wrong with that (as its documented that you can choose to pay the fees via the mortgage or up front). reasons given for writing off the credit card are bogus. Only potential area is PPI but even then you only get refunded when its set up wrong.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Phone your credit card company and explain that you were cold called on the phone and you were co-ersed into paying by credit card and that you are cancelling the product you purchased and it will take about 14 days for the refund to come. One thing I will say is that Cento always do refunds by cheque and then the cheque has to clear. So you could say 21 days.
With regards to your credit card payment phone them and come to an arrangement with them for payment asuming you can pay something?
You may want to do an income and expenditure summary of your income over expenses to show them that you are in difficulty. Also, as I said earlier you are then most likely to have have credit card charges, I will post up a link for you to threads where the refunds have been made speedily.

Seriously - DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE!!!
-It has taken them 4 weeks to refund our money despite 2 emails stating it would be with us within 7 working days:mad:Paperwork was received by them on 10/02/10 and the money was paid into our account today 12/03/10.
-Our complaint has still not been acknowledged 2 weeks after sending it despite them saying they do so within 7 days on the website:mad:
-Customer service is appaling! One girl was trying to challenge me why it took 4 weeks for our refund to come through when I have it in black and white on 2 occasions stating 7 days and met with "don't patronise me love" She then hung up! Having worked in a call centre I know that shouting and f-ing and blinding doesn't get you anywhere so I calmly stated back an email I received from them and was met with that!
-They say they have 30 days to refund, but they aim to within 7, as per the distance selling regs. At no point in amy correspence is the explained. I have it in black and white with no reference to the 30 day rule! "Your refund will be processed on 19/02/10, 7th working day. It will take no longer than 7 days to clear in your account.
-Their idea of working days is not consistant and to their advantage. If YOU want a refund the 14 day INCLUDES weekends but if they are paying you back it DOES NOT INCLUDE weekends!
I have sent copies of our complaint and correspondence to the MOJ. I hope they get shut down!2013 wins: Persil Bunny0 -
What I do not understand Emma is that they take your money by credit card but for refunds they send a cheque, then they send it by snails post and then you have to wait again for the cheque to clear. They should be avle to do a refund by credit card immediately?
I am however delighted that you did get the return of your money back and it should not have been so difficult or as time consuming as they make it. :T :T :T
Please let us know if you get any feedback from the MOJ. I fully suspect though that now you have been refunded there is not much that the MOJ can do now.
All the best

I will do but even if I dont now at least they are aware of the situation. Interestingly at no point did they mention the refund being a cheque but then they like to not disclose alot!!2013 wins: Persil Bunny0
