I was called by Cento Client Review yesterday, when he mentioned the name of your company and said you were solicitors I pulled him up on this.
That guy could argue black was white!
He informed me that they (CCR staff) were told to say you were solicitors. You were as good as solicitors, and you did exactly the same work as solicitors.
May be you should have a word with them about lying.
Telling me I could get money back for misrepresentation when they were doing exactly the same.
Best regards
Lyn
Hi Lyn
I sent compaints to the MOJ a week ago and to Forbes Douglas yesterday inquiries@ forbesdouglas.com, so far no responses.
I feel exactly the same as you why have Forbes Douglas not taken any action on this they have been aware of Cento Client Review's antics. You only have to check Forbes Douglas web site to see that they are a CMC and not solicitors. So are they acting together in this deceipt.

I have read through alot of the threads listed and the one thing that seems to be coming through, as well as alot of good advice is that people are still seemingly looking to trust some of these companies as they may be able to give them some cash back.
Please remember one thing above all. These companies are not doing this for your benefit. They will make lots of money out of this as well.
Recently the Office of Fair Trading announced that it is shutting down as many as 20 of these companies a week as they are not operating correctly or they are misleading clients. Their advice is that although the practice and the business that they are purporting to do is genuine it suggests that you shouldn't have to pay a fee upfront to any genuine company. If the companies are so confident that they can get your money back...and so quickly...why do they need your money up front? why cant they take it from the proceeds of the claim.
Alot of these companies are stating that they are authorised and regulated through the Ministry of Justice but if i remember the story correctly then you only have to be registered with them to conduct business.
I did originally have connections with one of these companies that I believe is 100% legit. They didn't charge a penny for any of the process as they claimed that they would get their income from the company being claimed against.
If this is the case I would be almost certain that any of these companies that are asking for money upfront are taking your percentage of claim, the upfront money and also a claim against the lender/provider too.
I am sure they probably have other ways of extracting the maximum income from clients and companies they claim against.
I am no expert on this subject but as a financial adviser I would strongly suggest that if anyone is contacted by any of these companies that they do a thorough search on forums and such to at least get a guide as to how the company operates. If the forum doesn't like the company and the company says it is a disgruntled customer....or several of them, I would ask how much profit the forum is going to make from a claim and how much the company is going to make...and did the forum contact you or did you go to it.
I do still believe there ar genuine companies out there. i know i had cinnections with one company that didn't charge a penny for the service it did...but unfiortunately i parted ways as there seemed to be a legal problem with making claims for my clients as we live in Northern Ireland.
I wish anyone making a claim the very best of luck in getting their money back but please please please make sure that you check the companies out properly first and ask them why they need the money up front if they can take it from the proceeds of the claim0 -
These guys have been phoning 3 or 4 times a day for the past few weeks. I actually managed to answer in time tonight to hear their little speil about how they can get me back £6,000 if I give them £149.99 over the phone today. They spoke about my mortgage that I had out on my property, quoted my address and knew when it was taken out. They also quoted the CRM16588 number that others have had quoted.
Have contacted the telephone preference service to complain about this cold callling, will be contacing my local Trading Standards Dept as well.
Guess what? I previously obtained a quote from Loans.co.uk!!!
If anyone knows anything more concrete about the theft of details from Loans.co.uk, please let me know as I've keen as mustard to go to town with them on this issue.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
A lot of claims companies employ ex financial services staff who have brought lists with them. A data protection breach but you are never going to be able to prove it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

Hi Bathgatebuyer
I have actually been talking to one of the Directors of Loans.co.uk on this subject and as far as they are concerned, they did in 2007 report the loss to the ICO and the Police at Watford. Sadly, they feel it is not provable and could still be a coincidence. I had intended to write also to the ICO and the Police at Watford, Loans.Co.Uk were unwilling to give me the reference numbers. When I have a moment, I will draft a letter to both. If you have not already seen my thread on Legal Beagles, I suggest that you do so, it has attracted many thousands of hits to that thread and I would say a good 75/80% of peeps recall having their data stolen back in 2007.
When I reported this matter about 6 weeks ago to the MOJ, I told them everything that I knew and so far I have not heard back from them but what they did during my conversation was that they were going to thoroughly investigate this as they had broken at least two of the rules of holding a licence and they also have a dedicated person dealing with Cento Client Review. The more complaints they receive the merrier.
Cold calling is not allowed and especially if you are ex directory and or have registerered with the TPS, them advising people that Forbes Douglas were Solicitors when they are definately not and finally telling peeps that they can get back certain sums of money - In my case they said a certain mortgage company I was entitled to £3K, I never had PPI, the charges were minimal and the loan was fully paid off and the payments were much more than £3K, so they cannot tell peeps what sums of money that they could reclaim. Also, interestingly enough they also told me when asked - where did you get my details from, they told me the FSA, now how could the FSA know what I could get back, so I challenged them, then they said it was from a central PPI register, this again is wrong, I have never ever taken PPI, so again they were misleading me. They also did another foolish thing they spoke to my O/H as I was out when, now if they knew so much about me from their sources they did not know that my o/h was oarty to the mortgage and they only asked for me and it was me alone that approached Loans.co.uk for a loan in my own name and that is the only thing I have done singularly.
As thre previous poster said they have probably bought a batch on names and phone numbers on the black market and this is where they got our details from. I am also concerned that if they bought our data on the black market they could resell at some point that same batch of data and that we can be bomabrded with other companies selling their wares.
If you want to discuss this situation with further please contact me via PM or here on this thread or indeed on Legal Beagles.

I have been contacted today by Cento today. The guy on the phone was offering to review my secure loan and credit cards incase they have been claculted incorrectly and therefore void etc and maybe be reduced or voided. I would have to pay £149 up front and this pretty much would be returned to me either as a refund back to my card if they could not claim the minimum amount (£1400) or as part of the no win no fee, they would also take 30% of a sucessful cash settlement.
I too had a loans.co.uk apllication and had my details stolen back in 2007!! I googled the company whilst on the phone to cento and asked you they had my details.. the answer was just a finance database of people who had credit. I was also given the same CRM16588 ref number as others on here.
I am so glad i found these reviews as for a moment there my stupid part of my brain was in overdrive and I seriously considered going ahead.
He is calling me back Monday , I shall be sure to ask if they are so sure of getting my cash back then why do I need to pay upfront, also about the Loans.co connection:mad:
Thanks everyone invaluable0 -
Hi Rokatocboxer
One thing comes to mind with the fee, that in the early days you had 2 weeks to apply for a refund if you did not to go ahead. It looks like from what you are saying the T&C's have now been altered, also they have increased the money they keep to 30% from originally 25%. Now you are stating that it will be refunded if they could not claim back the minimum of £1400. It strikes me odd how do they know that you have a secured loan and have credit card charges that would recover £1400?
This is my dilemma, you have to ask yourself why has there never been anyone who has recovered their money, as many months have now passed since many have given their money to Cento Client Review. No one has reported a recovery no matter how small and that for me is the worrying thing.
I am really pleased that you found your way to this thread and have read some usefull information. But you know everything they are offering you to do for a fee you can actually achieve yourself at no cost to yourself and your recovery is 100% yours.rokatocboxers wrote: »I have been contacted today by Cento today. Please be aware that this company are scamming people. They called my elderly father (ex directory & phone preference registered so no idea how they got his number) and persuaded him to give them £149.99 via a credit card for them to check out whether he had been mis-sold a loan & overpaid bank charges. This was back in July. He has had a pile of literature sent to him and no refunded charges. Complete rip off! I've written to the company, the telephone preference service and Dad's bank to say please don't let them take any more money. Any other suggestions?0
