I spoke to the Ministry of Justice yesterday and they advised me that it would be dangerous to stop making payments to Northern Rock (which isn't a mortgage btw and isn't secured) as I could be asked to pay back the whole lot for being in breach of contract but that that decision was up to me. I asked them whether they had had any other complaints about Cento and they said they coudn't tell me!

I think the solicitor they use is Forbes Douglas who specialise is these type of claims.

I think you will find, as previously stated, Forbes Douglas are a claims company, not a solicitor. As a claims man I would strongly advise against ceasing payments to your lender. I would certainly not make those payments to a solicitor instead, whoever is being used. It is all well and good stating that the lender will have to freeze the interest and not accept payments.

If you have read other posts you will note that lenders dont even do that when they themselves acknowledge the loan as unenforceable.

Keep making the payments and then find a company that may assist within the regulations.
I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

However, I have since seen the light.
  • Please may I as an officer of Forbes Douglas clarify, as a couple of correspondents have correctly already noted, that Forbes Douglas is a claims management company and not a firm of solicitors.
I would also like to clarify that Forbes Douglas would never advise a client to stop paying their contracted loan payments. It would be wholely improper for us to give that advice as a Claims Management Company and such advise can only come from a law firm.

Thank you for your post, can you confirm whether ForbesDouglas take on claims passed to them through Cento Client Review and what the basis of the relationship between the companies is. ie. are Cento simply selling on lead data to ForbesDouglas ?

  • My advise with experience in the claiming area is be VERY cautious ,many of these companies are set up to earn money not to assist you. But not all , there are good companies out there. If a regulated company passes the details to another regulated company and then to a Solicitor there will be endless charges. My advice is that you should find a Solicitor that will take it on on a no win no fee basis. If they are confident that you have been mis sold then they will take the case on. These companies have NO WAY of knowing on the phone if you have been mis sold they only know when they have your agreements. Also if a company are stating that they have Solicitors who aren't actually Solicitors then that doesn't ring true.
  • Also .... sorry .bit of an after thought... if the MOJ have advised not to stop paying why is this company aloud to say it ????? Who is regulating the regulated companies???

A good question. However, I think you will find it is some bright spark of a lawyer that has come up with the idea of paying them instead of the lender. The claims company is merely acting as an introducer to the solicitor.

My advice is the same as usual. Do not stop paying your payments. Do not pay up front fees. Do not pay any fees at all if you can help it. There are a few companies who are offering a fee free service, but such a service is only available if your PPI is at least £2500. (The minimum claim must be £5000 to use a funded and insured service). For claims below this you should either use the FOS or a claims company that charges a maximum of say 20% of your compensation, with no up front fees.

  • I just thought i'd give you guys n gals a look at a copy of an email i sent to the Ministry of Justice reference this company who rang me last week and told them i wasnt interested. So today, when they rang i took all there details nad even spoke to a MANAGER...whoop whoo!! Here it is. Let me know what you think!!

******I have received two phone calls from a company called Cento Client Review. The 1st phone call I told them I wasn't interested and the 2nd phone call I listened to them. As I was sceptical, the woman I originally spoke to put me onto her manager who said that the company they worked for were regulated by the ministry of justice and quoted a registration number of CRM16588.

They told me that they could claim back interest and charges etc from loan, credit cards and my mortgage from Northern Rock, (where they got information on who I have my mortgage with baffles me). They were wanting to charge an admin charge of £149 and said there solicitors take 25% of what they win back for me. They also said to check your website for there registration and they would call me back next week.
Can you please confirm this is a possible scam for me.********

    I shall post the reply

    Hi BTB

I am really pleased that you took the inititave and have wriiten to the Ministry of Justice.

Please can you advise if you have ever had any dealings with Loans.co.uk?

Can you please post up any response you receive from the MOJ.

During your conversation with them did they tell you they have solicitors called Forbes Douglas, well after research it appears that they are not solicitors.

Did you ask how they got your information?

I follow Legal Allsorts, a very interesting site.
  • Hi Milly

I did an online quote with loans.co.uk so no doubt this is where they got my details from,as for the mortgage details,i dont know!

They did tell me they had there own solicitors but did not quote the name and never thought on asking and i never asked where they got my details.

They did say that the £149 charge would be refunded in 24 hours and i did forget to put this in my letter to the MOJ.

I shall post any reply i receive from the MOJ.

    Thanks for the interest Milly.

Great site folks.....Lets go get em!!
