binkyboo, you are doing so well!
p.s. why can't your OH and DD pack for themselves? You shouldn't be doing all the hard work. What age is your DD?
DD is only 22 months and OH can't be trusted to pack the right things to be honest! we are going to be in a tiny cabin for a week so i will be trying to keep our packing down to a minimum but we also have no way of cleaning clothes unless we pay for a laundry service so i have to take enough for 7 days each, its going to be tricky! I work from home but only a few hours a day and look after dd whereas oh will be working every day up till we go so he really doesn't have the time to do much so it will be up to me to wash, iron, pack and manically clean the house before we go. Lets hope i can burn some extra calories with all the running round!0 -
Hello everyone! Not been around for a while due to un expected weekend away at Mum & Dad's, and just being grumpy. The weekend away was fab, the grumpiness isn't! I am putting it down to totm (the second in a month ) Well today I am 10st 12lbs, not very good. Only 1lb off since last Monday. But I suppose it's going in the right direction - VERY slowly.
Everyone seems to be doing really well, good job. Have a nice rest of day, I'm off to try and ignore my sweet tooth xx0 -

Oh right LOL!!!
Is the cabin by the sea? You might be able to get away with less if you're all going to be in swimming gear most of the time xoGet to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Binky - good news about the extra pay! Very MSE! :T and I'm sure all the running around will burn plenty of calories!
Tara - I do agree with everything Adrianhi has said, but IMHO, if you are trying to overhaul your lifestyle for the better and for the longer term, the changes you make have to be sustainable, and sometimes you can put just a little bit too much science into your diet. "babysteps" is pretty much my motto - you're doing the right thing by starting to document what you're eating, because you're then able to look back over it and make gradual changes. From what I've seen of your posts, you're an intelligent girl, and I think you already have a very good idea of what you do and don't need to be doing to get back in shape.
I've never been much of a calorie counter, I've played with the idea of it a few times, but I find it starts to give me quite an unhealthy attitude towards what I'm eating because I start to become a bit obsessed and feel like i'm depriving myself. Obviously everyone's different, so maybe counting the calories will work for you, but if I had to write a bible of how i've lost weight, it'd be based on the following:
- Trying where possible to make the healthier choice (Ie - brown bread instead of white, extra light flora instead of butter, tomato sauce instead of creamy ones, boiled rice instead of fried, fruit instead of chocolate etc etc)
- Stop eating when I'm full (Sounds ridiculously obvious - but my mum has a very bad habit of being very over generous with her portions, and in the past if it was on my plate, I ate it, I now try to be conscious of only eating when I'm actually hungry)
- Don't deprive myself of the things I really enjoy, and don't beat myself up too much when I do slip
- Trying to get as much activity into my life as possible (even just the simple things like taking the stairs instead of the lift etc)
- If I'm going to eat something which is bad for me - I make sure it's something I'll really enjoy
I wouldn't say I've changed my diet in the sense that I still eat all of the food I really enjoy, I've just found ways of modifying it so that the things that were bad for me, are slightly healthier than they maybe were before.
Whilst you're not the weight you want to be, you're not exactly overweight either - which does mean it'll be a slow gradual process to get the weight shifted - but on the flipside of that, if you manage to achieve it by gradually changing your lifestyle for the better, then hopefully the weight'll stay off?
Adrianhi's approach will probably give you much quicker results - but for me anyway, it wouldn't work in the long-term. I don't want to lose the weight I need to shift, and still be counting calories to try keep it off.
Anyways - that's enough of me slabbering on! (Although - no I probably wouldn't bother with the Protein Shakes - I've never tried them so that's probably not a very qualified opinion, but again I just think you're better off finding some healthier food that you enjoy eating, even if that is a piece of fruit, IMHO if it grows in the ground, it's got to be better for you than something that's manufactured - plus it's much harder to stick to it, if it feels as though you're on a diet, rather than just gradually changing your lifestyle)
Dragon Sorry you're feeling rotten, you really don't have an easy time of it do you? You've done so well this month though, you should be really chuffed with yourself!!
you too Jodun 1lb off is still a big achievement - if you lost 1lb a week, every week for a year - that adds upto 52lbs, which is definitely not to be sneezed at!!

I'll have to get in the habit of posting on here and not just reading and thinking I'll post later, then never getting round to it
Hope everyone's well, I've been feeling like total crap lately which is another reason I haven't posted - I hate inflicting my bad moods on other people. I did a sneaky WI last night, and had somehow put on 3 lbs in 3 days, I just looked at the scales and cried and screamed and shouted (god knows what the neighbours thought was going on :rotfl:). I've come to the conclusion the weight has gone on because I haven't been exercising because I've been in agony with my busted shoulder (which is now better woohoo!!) and my OH thinks I haven't been eating enough, we worked it out and I'm not even hitting 1000 cals per day at the mo  which means my body is storing fat instead of burning it off grrrrrrr. With me working such mad hours I'm hardly eating during the day and eating late at night as well which I doubt is helping.
I had a cack day at work today as well but because my shoulder is better I did an hour dvd and feel much better for it.
Tara - my OH takes protein shakes and says they help him burn fat when he works out. He's a gym instructor so he needs to be bulky but he has an injury so won't be weight training for a while. Now that I'm back into exercising I fancied giving them a go just to see if I could see and feel any difference, the ones OH bought taste yummy as well so might be good for a sweet fixAll the coffee in Columbia won't make me a morning person...

Hiya
Been missing for a week, got another pound loss so I'm really pleased because I couldn't exercise properly over in Dublin, just lots of walking.
Full of cold again (loooads of people coughing and sneezing on the airplane ugh) but have been good about food today, half a grapefruit for lunch, chicken and veg wrap with low-fat mayo for lunch and then a small bowl of pasta with pesto for dinner. Been drinking hot ribena for comfort (I always have it when I'm ill) which is full of sugar, but I'm trying to ignore it. No coffee yesterday, and only one today though, so thats good!
Hope you are all well, lots of hugs to everyone

Hi all...
I haven't done great today - have eaten some good stuff and a fair bit of rubbish but have done 3 hours' walking and some stretching/resistance exercises, squats etc. I need to do better foodwise, but the exercise makes me feel like I'm getting somewhere! The scales said 61kg/134.2lbs today so that made me feel better.
crapwithmoney, thanks so much for the long post and your kind words, it must have taken you ages! I am touched that you went to all that effort and your post makes so much sense that I am going to print it out and stick it on my fridge.
I know I'm not that overweight, but it's the upwards trend which scares me. And I look really flabby, to look at me you would think I was heavier than I am.
You are right, it is about making sustainable changes. The worst thing I do is eating when I am not even hungry. I do this all the time, especially at work. And I have no idea why! But I need to stop. I can't remember the last time I was properly hungry. Isn't that awful?
Writing down what I've eaten does help. It lets me see clearly where I've gone wrong and shames me into trying again the next day. I'm going to start writing it down as I eat it, that might help even more.
coffeeholic, sorry to hear about your shoulder. Don't worry about 'inflicting' your bad moods on us, come here and moan away anytime you need to! I've been feeling awful lately too, it is hard to get motivated again when you're putting on weight.Let me know how you get on with the shakes. I fancy the vanilla ones. Where's the best place to get them? I was thinking of Holland and Barrett, can you get them cheaper elsewhere?
miss_nadine, don't worry, it sounds like you haven't actually eaten that badly xoxo
Jodun, 1lb off is better than 1lb on, did you manage to ignore the sweet cravings?
carol22, hello! It sounds like you are doing well, I always try to eat my way out of a cold LOL! I hope you feel better soon.
So... today's food:
2 oatcakes
300g low fat Greek yog
2 slices of cake
2 slices of white bread and salad
2 kiwis
1 orange
2 small tuna sandwiches (meeting)
1 small soda bread toasted with butter
3 oatcakes with lots of Nutella
Such a depressing list! I didn't eat a proper dinner, just had the toasted soda as I was in a hurry to go walking.
Here's to a better tomorrow.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Coffee - that's good news about your shoulder - and your OH is right, sounds like you're hardly eating anything! Maybe that's why you're feeling low? I'm generally very grumpy if I haven't eaten enough! Tara's right though, come along and rant away any time you need to!
It's better out than in!!
miss_nadine - at least most of your munchies have been healthy, compare that to what you would've had before you were watching what you were eating - and I'm sure it's massively improved! Plus - I dunno if it's just me, but I find that my monthly cycle really affects my appetite? Anyone else? I don't have any inclination to eat when aunt flo's here - but for a good 10 days or so before I could eat from I get out of bed 'til I get back into it again?Maybes that's just my excuse anyway!
Carol - Well done on still managing to lose weight while you were away - that's a pretty massive achievement in itself!! :A
Tara -Thanks! - Sorry - I think one of my Oprah WHinfrey moments came over me! I totally know what you mean about eating when you're not hungry as well - I'm the worlds worst for it if I'm bored! If I keep myself busy at nights, I don't get time to think about it - have you seen the WW advert where the girl says "I've realised my cravings are in my head and not my belly" - that totally sums me up!!
It's like I literally do have wee arguments with myself "I really want some chocolate", "but you're not hungry", "but they're sitting there just waving at me - and they look so pretty"
Anyway - I'm off to bed now!!
Oh - almost forgot, todays food for me:
B: Porridge, with s/skimmed milk
L: Greggs Sandwich (Brown bread, spread with Flora Light, and Ham Tomato as a filling)
S: 12 CherriesRoast Chicken dinner (Chicken, roast potatoes (Roasted with fry light), Roasted veg)
S: 4 Crackerbread, 1/2 pint of milk
Also went swimming - quite pleased with myself for getting off my lardy !!! and doing something for a change! Only swam 30 lengths, felt as though I could've kept going all night, if I hadn't had tp get home and walk the dog!
I've probably eaten quite a lot there actually, but I'm quite pleased as there's none of it too bad! - Didn't give in to the chocolate craving after dinner - had a peppermint tea instead!! :T
