We received our new "Visa Debit" cards yesterday and it is indeed an Electron card but without Electron printed on the front.

It starts with 4508 but the numbers are embossed on this one as opposed to being printed on the electron card.

Dont really see the point in the cooperative bank doing this to be honest, it seems like very false advertising to me.
:grouphug: hehe it always makes me chuckle

Has this still not been sorted then. If so not only is that rubbish its also a shame. As i dont use my card much it does not really matter to me but i would have loved to have known that the card could be used everywhere.

I too thought this may have been sorted by now.

No help to anyone but I still have my Nat West Step account open so can use Solo if needed.

Quite surprised that one did not close,, as I thought they might do, still wont look a gift horse in the mouth

  • I opened my acc!!!! with co op as they were offering full visa debit surely they should be had under trading standards. They clearly have full visa debit numbers for there other accounts so to me it is false advertisoing to say it is visa debit when they know it is electron and they are just trying to match the barclays and lloyds basic bank accounts and what they offer or pretend to. I recently went to asda where they only had automated fuel station and was low on deisel but was confident with my visa debit I could top but the machine didnt even try for authorization just read the chip and returned card. Fortunately I still had my solo card from step account and managed to get some with that or would have been calling out the AA. At least if Co-op still called it electron I would have known I couldnt use it there
  • Hi all - I've had a Co-op cashminder account since my BR in 2004 and its always been Electron, always had problems with some online transactions but have recently noticed that many have added 'Electron' to their lists for payment. I have in the past done what others have done and entered it as Visa debit and its gone through ok but others just won't accept.
I lost my bank card 3 weeks ago but then found that i for some reason actually must have had 2 cards in expiry so rang them just to get a new pin for the second card which took 1 week to come through and ended up being the same pin as the first card ?????? Odd! Anyway, my card expires early next year so I'll also wait to see what arrives in its place - fingers crossed i may fall into the 'renewal' zone just when they possibly change their strategies after all the complaint calls from customers realising they have been issued 'electrons' disguised as 'visa debits'! i for one am just happy to have a bank account following BR so can't really complain. Good luck x
