We seem to appreciate ethical banking as offered by the CO-OP and yet we don't extend that to other areas, do some reading and you'll find that Tesco are as unethical as it gets and scum of the highest order.
Don't moan about the CO-OP Electron, moan about Tesco and then take your business elsewhere easier said than done for some people particularly who are housebound & on a budget..besides its NOT just tesco that refuse this card.
Besides when I joined the co-op over 2yrs ago they recently said if I kept the account in good standing they would consider an upgrade to a full account...now they change their minds and say they'll NOT upgrade an ex BR's account till credit files update in 6yrs...tesco is simply one of the many problems with these so called "visa" debit cards from the co-op they should NEVER have sent these cards out with leaflets stating the new card will be accepted anywhere without hassles...besides it's NOT just tesco this card has been refused at..cant buy a train ticket either so what do you suggest with that?... in reality its still being treated as an electron card (just in fancy clothing)....now? I bank with another company who were good enough & trusting enough to give me a full account with debit card cheque book and a small o/d..
and with the quote you made...sounds like it came straight from the co-op staff handbookWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -

It wasn't a dig at anyone (except Tesco) but I'm sure there are ways around it, like a pre-paid debit card etc..
I agree it can be inconvenient that Electron/Visa debit isn't accepted everywhere but personally I will just be happy to have an account and a card after going BR, when it was first suggested to me I was amazed any bank let BRs have an account!
PS. I'm not a CO-OP employee0
