perhaps this could be the little device that will allow you to use the visa (thinly disguised as electron) at Tesco??? & other places.

Yes i got the letter about britannia but didn't pay much attention to it lol! it's around somewhere. paperwork has never been my strong point.

BTW when should we get the "new" card because I haven't had anything or heard anything at all about it.

I got my card reader a few days ago, haven't used it online yet, all it does is generate a random code for you to enter, like a PIN but longer.

I thought it was just for some online banking transactions, not online shopping, I can't see it having any bearing on the Visa/Electron debacle, although I could be wrong.

We have had our card reader a while and to be honest i find it a bit of a pain! It is not to bad having to use it everytime you want to make a payment on online banking when you are at home but if you go to someone elses house and try to do it from their pc and you haven't brought your card reader with you then you are stuck!

It has nothing to do with buying online, just making payment etc from your online acc!

I tried my electron and visa debit at tesco.com yesterday and neither was accepted, i am going to stick to my paypal prepaid for tescos from now on!

The thing is Gaz, you're the only person who's new 'visa' 4508 card isn't still acting like an electron. There's a whole thread about in on the Bank accounts forum too, no-one else can shop a Tesco or the other places electrons aren't accepted:

The poster on post 195, only 4 days ago still couldn't order from Tesco's with their new card

So, it's more likely that it's a fluke yours is working when dozens and dozens of other peoples aren't. At the moment everyone but you still has an Electron card disguised as a Visa.

I agree its odd, but Im sure Im not the only person who has one that works, there must be someone else in the country.

Well my card is due for renewal in October, although this isn't my main account. As soon as I was discharged I applied for a Yorkshire Bank ''Readycash account'' as you get a proper Maestro card and excellent online banking. For instance if you use your card online or have been out shopping it shows up immediately.
I do like the co op for their ethical policies though.
  • I'm a bit confused why people are so desperate to ditch their visa electron cards? I honestly haven't had any problems with this card - and I've even managed to use it on websites which claimed to only accept standard visa.
