I've had to use it every time i want to make a payment! My sister lent me 40 quid to pay for my food shopping as i had forgot my card and i was going to transfer it over to her when we got to my mums but it wouldn't let me without the reader so i had to wait till i got home which was a pain as my sister needed the money then!
Why didnt you just do it over the phone then?

I have found this at the end of Barlcays monthly advice to its customers accepting cards:

Amendments

Page 1 Amended Bin Range 419176-79 – Request from Visa to amend these to Visa Debit – these were previously Visa Credit

So it seems Visa can tell Barclays and everyone else that 450875 is a Visa Debit card without much trouble.

Well my card is due for renewal in October, although this isn't my main account. As soon as I was discharged I applied for a Yorkshire Bank ''Readycash account'' as you get a proper Maestro card and excellent online banking. For instance if you use your card online or have been out shopping it shows up immediately.
I do like the co op for their ethical policies though.

yeah me too. they have been great. Apart from a significant lack of branches! just out of interest did you ask coop to upgrade you to a better card upon discharge?

I'm going to keep my electron for the moment because Ryan Air don't charge you to use it. I recently let my friend use my card to book her £10 flight and it actually cost £10. She first input her card details and they were going to charge her an addition £20 to use the card, making the flight cost £30.

Just received my new card. Bright blue ''Visa Debit'' and with raised/embossed numbers..albeit 4508 ones LOL. OK....its still an electron card but who cares? Not me....it just looks way better than the scabby 'flat' green one i had before. :-D At the end of the day...I have a lot to thank Coop for:j

• Has anyone heard from the Co-Op if they are actually going to sort this card problem out?

It's been talked about that the BIN number can be reallocated to "Visa Debit", But are they actually gonna do that?!

Cheers!

All adding little green ticks to my credit file :D
• Just used one of my new cashminder cards for the first time online - clicked on the Visa Debit box rather than the electron box and it all went through fine (thank you OR for not freezing the account) - even though mine beings with 4508!

I just had my first problem with my flat number green coop electron card. The card reader in the shop I went to wasn't working so they had to take out the old fashioned card thingy (sorry I forgot what its called!) and of course it needed raised numbers to use it. I had to go out of my way to get cash from a machine.

i tried tescos online last week with my coop visa electron and got a big fat "no"

People, what's the obsession with Tesco?

We seem to appreciate ethical banking as offered by the CO-OP and yet we don't extend that to other areas, do some reading and you'll find that Tesco are as unethical as it gets and scum of the highest order.

Don't moan about the CO-OP Electron, moan about Tesco and then take your business elsewhere.
