Just abit of an update for you guys and gals.

My brother got a call from a manager at the co op today.

They aware of the problem and they have contacted Visa International.

Visa International have said they will update there databases to ensure that the 4508 BIN is recorded as visa debit and not an visa electron over the next week or so.

Which will in turn resolve the problem so they say....

Guess youll have to wait and see

I think its the AID number on reciepts you need to be looking out for.

As where my brother has used his card some reciepts say visa electon and some say just visa.

But the AID number is the same on all of them.

Well Folks - I hate to let all you lovely people who are desperate to shop on line at Tesco's down but it still isn't accepting Co-op Visa Debit - My list was still showing from the last attempt so I just resubmitted it re-entering my card details and it was a big fat no! I will give it another go next Weds/Thurs but I'm starting to feel unloved and hungry - looks like sainsburys will get my money again this week!!!!

I think it my take some time as Visa will need to send updates to retailers terminals in order for the change to take place. So it might not happen over night.

Might take even longer. Visa will update their records but it will be up to the merchant banks to update their records and then the retailers (depending if they have a dedicate payment system or just use a terminal). Not sure if Visa have an agreement which requires updates to take place within a set time.

I agree totally with you DVS.

For example RBS are in the process of Transitioning to visa debit from maestro.

The switch over begins in august/september 2009 however retailers had until the end of May to ensure there terminals was ready for the switch over.

Sorry but am I reading this right - it's not just Visa that have to make changes we also have to wait until retailers ie tesco decide to update their system? So why didn't the Co-op when they decided to change to Visa Debit agree a different card No ie not 4508 but one that would automatically be accepted as a REAL Visa Debit - Sounds like a huge dogs dinner of a mess to me!

I have had one of these machines in the past and the one we have was updated everynight either by the bank or Visa so in this day and age i cant see it would take any longer than 1 night. If someone rings Co-op maybe they could try and see what line they are using this week. lol
