    Hi ladies,
lovely cakes as usual. I looked at lots of wholesalers, but im in no way near getting enough orders to go that way yet. Plus im still enjoying the shopping trips!:) I have 2 shops displaying my cakes, and to date only 1 order! but hey ho it keeps my mind off my unemployement. Good news thought i spoke to the manager of Hobbycraft yesterday about a CV id handed in, and he seems impressed! How cool would that be, to work in a craft shop :D

    Bellag that is stunning!

Well hi guys, Im back :) In the process of making a christening nappy cake for a cousin and a football cake for a friend :) Looking forward to doing it again!

Also popped to a craft fair today and think it could be a good place to have a good go at selling the cakes. Has anyone here got any tips / advice on selling at fayres? How many should I take, and what selection should I offer?

    Thankyou!

For the fayre I usually take at least one of every cake I make and a few more of the more popular ones- 3 tiers and more affordable mini cakes.
I also try and make up lots of smaller gifts that sell at less than a fiver so that if i dont sell cakes I make profit on the smaller items. Thinks like sock pints, survival kits, cupcakes, flannel cakes etc. If its near (October onwards) Christmas then you should be able to sell loads of smaller items as people are looking for stocking fillers. I would also display all you prices as some people like to browse and not ask questions! Get a banner done from ebay and loads of brochures or business cards.

    Hello girlies!

Hi Becs I think I'm going to try some of licenced toys on my luxury cakes soon. That 'licenced' retailer have still to sort my account out its driving me nuts but one of the sales reps is coming over on Tuesday with samples so I can try them on my cakes.
I am now getting some blankets, towels, scratch mitts, muslins, face cloths, feeding cloths at wholesale prices. I get my nappies from Costco which work out cheaper than the 2 for £18 deal. they also do cheaper Johnsons products there. My problem is trying to come up with a design am happy with and therefore want to stick to!
I am still on the look out for wholesalers for socks and vests.
Heres my latest...cost a fortune to make so will have to sell for a fortune :D

Ive spent so much time researching and looking at different nappy cakes from the uk and usa but thats the nicest one ive ever seen, its amazing!!!

Where does everyone get their wholesale stuff from, and sorry to sound dim but what do people mean by licened toys, do you have to be registered with the company to sell them or something?

Carmim, yes it is lovely working surrounded by all the craft stuff in Hobbycraft but really its just like any other large store - damned hard work- dont want to disillusion you just find a really comfy pair of shoes, I hope you get a lovely department manager like I had, who made sure you got your breaks as happy staff work better.

Bellag, your cake is sooo beautiful! Best one yet!
I see you have used raffia. I bought some last week to go on some "farm" animals cakes, but won't be making them up just yet as I need to do other stuff first. Not took it out of the packet yet so don't even know how long it is!

I know what you mean about designs - I think I know which way I want to go but then keep on with the tried and trusted method as it's easier at the moment.

Louby_lou_lou, Your cake is lovely! It's really pretty and soft looking. Well Done!

    Hi Carly

I live in Longton - my friend was selling them in her market stall (she does baby clothes and toys normally) I told her that I was starting to do them and that I was going to ask her if she wanted to sell them but I had seen that she had beaten me to the punchline (great minds...) then she told me that she was selling a few but she really didnt have time to do them anymore so... she'd be happy to sell mine!!! I'm so chuffed!!!

Where about in Stoke are you?? I'll let you know if I spot any good bargains locally :D

    Stokegal

BTW Carly - do you make the fasinator's on your website?? They are gorgeous!!

    Hiya
I am from Werrington. Great news about your friend selling them on her stall! Well done. I would love to have an outlet selling/displaying some of my cakes but nothing as yet. I want to get it off the ground before I have to go back to work after Xmas though (off on mat leave). I will let you know if I spot any bargains too, the b&m and home bargains is best though.
As for the fascinators - no I buy them in when I get an order. I have an online jewellery business too part owned with my mum which takes up a lot of time as we get quite busy :)
