Morning all! Just wondered how everyones "toy" search is going? I was in Asda yesterday and thought I had better buy some of the cream teddies (grey pads)as they only had a few left. I got them for £1.50 each. They are usually £3 or 2 for £5. It looks like they are taking them off as well as the ellephants but, they don't seem to be replacing them with anything.0

Hello Everyone
Thanks for the tutorial Rusty, it's super!
I wondered if any of you ladies who had done craft fairs had ever taken any photos of your stalls at all??

Wow - you ladies are all so inspiring and make it sound so easy to do that I have become convinced that I want to start making nappy cakes, I'm not the most artistic in the world but have become obsessed with handmade items since the birth of my son, I recently had him christened and made my own christening invitations, thank you cards, balloon archway. That may not sound much to all you clever and artistic ladies but I was so impressed (less impressed with the reaction that I recieved off most people - "You made these??? But these are good!! Are you sure you made them??"- Cheeky beggars!!)
So I wanted some practical advice on how to get started - I have a few friends who I am going to make nappy cakes for so that people start talking about them, but where do most people advertise - also I'm in Stoke on Trent, I'm only aware of 1 place where you can get them in Stoke, is anyone here from Stoke as I wouldn't want to be treading on anyones toes (plus my attempts would be dire compared to the standard on here)
Thanks

Hi Stokegal,
I do most of mine through work as I work in an office with 200+ staff. It started off as doing them for those going on maternity leave but now people have seen them around lots of them ask for cakes for outside of work. I did one last week for a girl I work with, her partner is a fireman and he was going to go and get some bits from mothercare for one of his colleagues who had recently had twins. She said "no you don't I've got the perfect thing" and showed him the website. They were very impressed at the fire station and will have some more orders through there. Another girl's sister had one and now her work have ordered a few through me so it really is word of mouth. I have a website but I don't promote it, it's there more for a tool to show people although pics and prices are very outdated now! It also allows me to take credit card payments for cakes which can be handy. I've done 2 fayres, 1 was a total washout and abaoloutely nothing came of it at all, the other was a hospice charity day for "ladies who lunch" where it was set up as Christmas shopping in the morning followed by lunch and a fashion show. The ladies had paid £45 to attend so there was plenty of money around. A percentage of my sales went to the hospice and that was a hugely sucessful day, selling over £300. I'm at the stage now where I'm thinking of going for it a bit more and redoing the website and seriously promoting it.0 -

Hi Stokegal
I am from Stoke I have recently started to make nappy cakes, new baby gift hampers etc. I don't know anywhere else that sells them at the moment. Although when at the Leek show a few weekends ago I did see another stall selling them but not 100% sure if she was local or not? I have sold quite a few and only recently started to make them so not doing too badly, mostly word of mouth though, although I have just had an order through the web from middlesex.
Whereabouts in Stoke you from?
