  • Hi,
Have just gathered and made 3 nappy cakes today for friends and was wondering where is the best/cheapest place to get clear cellophane and pull bows from? (Don't mind ordering online) Also what size cellop is best? Thanks in advance :)

    Hi
Does anyone have any good links for gift card templates. I would like to make one up with an ingredients list for my cake but can't find anything suitable.

Also those of you that are selling your cakes via shops etc, I assume you have had to register as self employed with HMRC? I'd like to advertise my cakes and sell them in this way but am unlikely to make my fortune doing this. How much hassle is it to register with HMRC, do tax returns etc? Am I better just doing this for friends and family?

    Sorry, so many questions.......

    Hi xpf
You must always register with HMRC if you are trading. This needs to be done within 3 months of trading, not within 3 months of starting to make profit, as some may think. It is no hassle at all to register with them. You can find a form online/do it on the phone. Only takes a few minutes. With regards to tax returns, again these can be done online and are very straightforward. I have done one so far for my wedding and party supplies shop and it tells you straight away when you click submit how much you have to pay/are owed in tax.
If you just want to be creative and make nice presents for people you know, then there is nowt wrong with that. However, if you would like to get some extra income then why not set up as a business? I doubt you would make a fortune with it, but plenty of ladies on here seem to be busy with it. I am just doing it as one thing to add to my shop, but then I still work part time when I am not on maternity leave, as my business cannot replace my income as yet, but hope it will do some point soon :)

I'm gonna make two nappy cakes very soon, got most of the 'ingredients' apart from the obvious...nappies...where do you buy yours from....which size..and how much do you spend on them?...Also, just another 'quickie'...do you attach the 'cake' to the board...I know you wrap them in cello...I was just wondering. Thanks.

    Hi dogcat
I personally use the eco nappies as they only work out a tiny bit more per cake and they are the nappies I have always been happiest to use. Have had too many disasters with Pampers etc for some reason!
Yes, you do attach the cake to the board. There is a method called tubing which you can find on this thread. Let me know if you can't find it!

Hi everyone, I've just made my first nappy cake, for my sister-in-laws new baby, and am feeling chuffed :j
but am now panicking about transporting it, I've got to take it 30 miles in the car, without anybody to help hold it.
I will wrap it in cellophane, but just saw someone mention "tubing" method to attach the cake to the board- I'd be really grateful of any advice.
    Thank-you

I have had a look through the thread, only up to page 25 so far but I think you are all doing fantastic! I see some people are doing cakes for the mother to be too. I had an idea from looking at this thread and it is my sisters 21st birthday coming up and I think this would be a great thing to do, the only problem is I have no idea what I could put in it! Possibly a towel bale and a bottle of some kind of drink but what else could it be filled with to make it more than 1 tier?
It also looks a bit confusing with how the tiers go on top of each other, or maybe Im just not bright enough to figure out how lol.
