    please someone help me

I really want to make a unisex nappy cake for my friend and her husband who are due their first baby on christmas day. I will need to post it to them, so no doubt I'll have to find a big box and some polystyrene chips etc to protect it.

Can someone point me in the direction of some good instructions pleeeease??

I am looking to make a "small" cake for a 3 year old. I have a small doll for the top so I don't wat to spend too much on the base of the cake, any suggestions? Something along the lines of a mini nappy cake size.

    Thanks

Hi lrlrip. I have just done a small cake for a 5yr old, I used a lovely fleece blanket from B&M £1.99. I rolled it up to look like a cake put some bubble bath in the middle and a fluffy rabbit on top.

:T Thank you, didn't think of putting a bottle in the middle.
  • Does everyone use cake boards for their bases, or a circle of cardboard? I know that theoretically the cake boards can be used by the recipient, but if using the tubing cellophane method, surely you have to stick sellotape all over the bottom of the board and this would ruin it??

    Hi
Does anyone have any good links for gift card templates. I would like to make one up with an ingredients list for my cake but can't find anything suitable.

Also those of you that are selling your cakes via shops etc, I assume you have had to register as self employed with HMRC? I'd like to advertise my cakes and sell them in this way but am unlikely to make my fortune doing this. How much hassle is it to register with HMRC, do tax returns etc? Am I better just doing this for friends and family?

    Sorry, so many questions.......

debsleypig - I use cake boards for the simple fact that I am rubbish at cutting straight and for me to cut a circle that looks like a circle would be a distater! Plus they are strong and probably work out cheaper than buying the card and cutting it yourself as thick card of a similar thickness is expensive. I have however a few times used gold disposable plates - they are a bit cheaper and you can't really see them depending on how you do your cake
