I have spent hours and hours reading up on the menus etc of previous challenges and think my eyes are about to go crosseyed!.
There are so many threads on here, that inspire me to rise to the challenge and get the Food budget back on track. No excuses its all down here somewhere or other.
Tonight DS and I had Gammon and Chips and Peas, set me back around about £2.50 I think. But looking at that its a Luxury meal now. I am sure we can get alot more for that kind of money, with the help on here. I really have slipped into expensive habits. Now there is only the two of us, I cannot afford to waste a penny or anything still in the fridge and freezer.
I am hoping that DS will cope with a few weird and wonderful meals that we have ahead, while I use up all the odds and sodds that we brought with us from the other house, when there were 8 of us eating!.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi all
Trawled round the shops at the weekend and spent £69.31 in Mr T, Iceland, Sainsbugs, Lidl and Netto. Sorted for the month hopefully.
Lots of space in newly defrosted freezer in the cellar (the door shuts now!) so any bargains can go in when I find them. Have 3 joints of pork, 1 chicken, mince and sausages in freezer which will sort me out for a couple of weeks. (she hopes)Mortgage free as at 1/9/13 :j
To start work on the credit cards now!!0 -
Another £2.17 for me today - binbags and scourers. OH bought the wrong scourers though, so you will see another spend later in the week for more sodding scourers :rotfl:
I only have two weeks to go until payday though and other than the scourers I should only really need bread, milk, fruit & veg and catfood (Little blighters have 11 days of food left, payday is 14 days away!)
We will see if I stick to this plan...!0 -
Evening all hope all is well. Things not going brilliantly for my first GC, however thats mainly cos at present am off sick from work (very cautious Dr) and got a feeling could be longer than the 4 weeks sick note i got so am basically buying anything i see thats cheap and cheerful to stock up on cos dunno how wages are gonna turn out so preparing to be VERY frugal next month iykwim
From my actual GC cash from my pot took £10 today to trawl shops looking for washing powder, ended up getting huge 10kg box from netto for £6.99will last the rest of the year probably, and spent the change and a couple of pounds of 'my' money on a whoopsied chicken and whoopisied huge pork leg for freezer.
On a happy note dont have to pay BT this month that id budgeted for cos apparently bill not due till july and breakdown cover came out on same day as wages went in so didnt realise till checked paper bank statement today, have been waiting for it to come out so a little extra in the budget:j
Am going for a night at the greyhounds tommorow with dad and sister, ive not got a clue but my dad loves it so may make a few quid hopefully.
Am keeping all my reciepts but doubt will be in budget this being first month so am just keeping to as little as possible.
Have a good un everyone!0 -
£2 I forgot to report for yesterday, for bread.....
Nothing spent today, though, and a lovely one pot easy dinner of mince, rice, herbs, pepper, celery, spring onions all cooked together and making a sort of risotto type bung it all in thing. Even my fussy DD enjoyed it, so it can't be bad.
I can see it being a regular "eat up out of the fridge" type dinner! 2 Mushrooms left? Bung 'em in......a courgette about to turn? Bung it in! Only a handful of frozen peas in the bag? No problem!

Another trip to MrT today as our delightful builders have almost finished the coffee. So spent £9.61 but got 100g of Nescafe Gold Blend for £2, plus two double packs of bacon for £2 each (discount brands), Lyons treacle tarts x 2 packs of 6 as they were £1.49 BOGOF, 5 pack of Extra gum plus some tinned pineapple for our sweet and sour pork tonight.
Visiting my Mum tomorrow so will go to her Ald* for some super 6 fruit as I feel I may be missing out!!
Think everyone must've read TessieBears post about Whoopsie hunting as it was like a rugby scrum around that fridge - couldn't get anywhere near it!!

Morning all!
I've run out of milk, tomato ketchup and washing up liquid so will need to pop to the shops later. I promise to keep the spends below £5!
Did a freezer inventory yesterday and have managed to run the meat/fish down to almost all used up but still have lots of veggie (mostly quorn) type food - I'm a veggie and Oh isn't!
I really shouldn't need to buy any veggie food for the rest of the month but I'll have to succumb and buy more bits for the OH.
I'm determined to come in on budget again this month after last month's triumph (first time after months of trying!).0
