why shouldn't the person want to be careful with money and save money even if they are rich? i consider myself pretty well off but it doesn't mean i'm going to waste money. i'll always look for the cheapest optionsMartin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -

Yes
I'm working to retire before I'm 50. That means making hay while the sunshines. My choice, of course, and I'm fine with sacrificing these next few years for the right end.0 -
There are some things that a high salary sometimes comes with that isn't worth taking , like no time with family , constant phonecalls at home , Stress, worry , the effect on health , Can't take your money with you , may as well make the most of it . I would choose quality of life over salary any day so long as I had enough money to pay bills etc and have enough to live off . I asked my kids the other day what the best times were that they could remember , and guess what? They were all things that didn't cost any money at all. Some things money can't buy including happiness .0

We're so precious here in the west. People say it's unpolite to discuss earnings, but I've never heard a good reason why, except some harking back to a Victorian sense of proprietary.
I think it's convenient for management if staff don't discuss salaries, in case people find out that colleagues are earning more than them, and then want a pay rise.
Personally I think it's healthy to discuss salaries, that this is an interesting thread, and that people shouldn't be criticising others for doing exactly what the title is asking them to do!
Me: tv director for large licence-fee funded broadcasting corporation. £30,000 basic plus £5,000 allowance for working unpredictable hours, plus about £2,000 depending on how much work I do at unsociable hours (between midnight and 6am)..0 -
patchwork_cat wrote: »Class - means not rubbing other people's noses in it - how can you crassly post this income if it is indeed true, on the same thread as another lady who is a SAHM whose husband is on £6.20 per hour. That is thoughtless and the only motive you can have for posting is an ego boost.
I dont get this, this a public forum, where people are asked to write their wage and job, this is what he has done, whats the problem?
Good on him, for working hard to get where he is, on the money he is on. I could understand if he was looking down his nose at those on less money, but it seemed like a genuine reply to me.

I say nice one bendix!
Directed at patchwork cat - this is an open forum and posts based on jealousy or disbelief are not in the spirit of this thread. For info I work with a number of people who have salaries ranging from £30K right to £150K with plenty of them in the £50-80K range as we are all specialists in what we do.
MSE has no restrictions on who is allowed to be a member.. if you do not like this thread, you do not have to read it, I am sure aswell in the forum etiquette that it states we should all be nice to each other. Read it with interest rather than jealousy0 -
Administration for local government - due to restructuring after 28 years service - .]still at the bottom of my scale - how does that work then. Scale £17500 to £19900. Totally agree, everyone should watch there pennys, at the end of the day you don't know what is round the corner and sometimes for those who are well off it can all come crashing down if not careful! Look at the likes of Neil Morrissey a quite well off celeb who went through an IVA to sort debt problems out!
Money often doesnt last for ever so why not be careful with it whatever you earn!0
