... how can you crassly post this income if it is indeed true, on the same thread as another lady who is a SAHM whose husband is on £6.20 per hour.

Isn't that the whole point of the the thread....to list your wage?
Herman - MP for all! :)
  • The forum title is list your job and wage so thats exactly what he's done, why is it thoughtless to list what he earns it would only affect you if your a jelous person. your train and study to get a good job and a decent wage is your reward for that you don't have a £150,000 carreer strung upon you, you earn it it should give people inspiration to get a better job if anything.

Class - means not rubbing other people's noses in it - how can you crassly post this income if it is indeed true, on the same thread as another lady who is a SAHM whose husband is on £6.20 per hour. That is thoughtless and the only motive you can have for posting is an ego boost.
  • So you don't think that the posters motive for posting was an ego boost for themselves.

I have not posted my/our income on here as I felt after reading a few posts that it would be inappropriate, shame that the poster believes he is so much better than people on low wages. If you look back through some of his thread starts then as a compassionate individual you will get my meaning.

So let me get this right. Are you attacking me for earning a good income, or joining in a thread where (so far) around 200 other members have put their circumstances?

Or is it your view that the very fact I earn a decent living, should PRECLUDE me from participating in this thread, because it might make other posters feel bad? Frankly, there is only one person acting up on here, and that's you pal.

Where does the 'poster believes he is so much better than people on low wages', come from? Could you back that up please?

My post - like so many others on this thread - is a simple statement of income and benefits.

It's only you who is upset that it is - in your opinion - higher than most.

I'm intrigued that I've caused you so much anguish. I wonder why.

Always been taught it's really unpolite to discuss earnings :/
  • The people on here arn't neccesarily poor and wanting sympathy 20 grand a year may seem small the side of 150 grand but you can have a perfectly satisfying life with that people with high wages generally have higher overheads because the have bigger houses etc, people only get in financial trouble if there trying to live outside what they can afford.

im on a average persons wage of £9 an hour and reading a post from someone who earns 150 a year doesnt make me jelous in the slightest bit i enjoy reading what differant jobs pay, and no way would i want the stress of being a lawyer or doctor or anything else too important i'd rather earn 20 grand a year and not take work home with me.
if you have a stressful job you deserve every penny.

Then don't contribute to the thread. This thread is an anonymous random survey. It means nothing.

Funnily enough, I've lived most of my adult life in Asia where frank and open discussions about salary are the norm. It's openly discussed and there is no stigma attached to it. In fact, to be coy about it is considered unpolite. There is no judgement attached to it at all.

We're so precious here in the west. People say it's unpolite to discuss earnings, but I've never heard a good reason why, except some harking back to a Victorian sense of proprietary.

I did see a wee while ago about someone who claimed to earn over £70k, yet if you look back at other posts he'd made he said he was looking to claim JSA and was wanting a permanant job. The reason I looked at his posting history is because it's in the same field as my husband works, and I was doubtful that a 26yo would be doing the job he claimed he was.
