I know this is Lionbridge, but I'm just wondering if anyone here has worked for Appen through crowdflower?

Just got my email today to say that I've passed all their exams for the internet assessor position!! :j:j
Im chuffed to bits as I spent ages trying to make sure I did everything spot on. Does anyone who is currently working for Lionbridge know how long it usually is from receiving this email to being able to start working? I've been made redundant and hubby's wages don't cover the bills so I need to start earning asap while I look for another part time job.

Trying to download toolbar and keep getting error message saying there might be a problem with the package. Error message 2350. Does anyone have any ideas please? My deadline to complete the modules is tomorrow and I really need this job!!!

Well I started and finished with Lionbridge doing Side by Side. Just couldn't do the tasks in the suggested time. Internet is not fabulous here (no fibre) and I needed to look at too many links to made a judgement. I didn't mind the work but needed longer than I was given.

Does anyone perform one of these Lionbridge roles alongside a full-time job? I'm wondering if it's a nice easy way to get some extra pennies or whether it will just end up stealing all of my free time.

I've had a couple of recent stints as data cleaner for Brainbech ($300 each time) which were ok as they only required no more than 5-6 hours to validate around 100 times altogether and were subjects well within my area of expertise.
  • Hello!

Im new to the Moneysavingexpert forum and have been reading along and getting tips on how to boost my income.

I recently went part time at work (and could afford it) and such is life that a few months down the lines things have changed a little and Im finding myself in need of a little bit extra. I have 2 children and have ALWAYS worked full time so am enjoying my extra time with them (that I do feel i have missed out on) that I thought I'd try applying for Lionbridge on the advice of these forums!

ANYWAY, I have a question on tax! Having never worked freelance/contract before......and this being my second job.....is it worth looking into umbrella companies? Or do you fill in a tax return? I'm completely clueless as I've always been PAYE!

    Thanks in advance! x

    Hey Sarnie

Yeah you just inform HMRC when you start and you fill out a self assessment every year. It's all online now and dead easy for something like this. Good luck in your application, remember to check out Appen and Leapforce if you are unsuccessful (I'm currently with Appen and pretty happy here)
  • Cool thanks Wesleyad - I've not heard of Appen but was planning on trying Leapforce if I was unsuccessful!

    Thanks :-)

Has anyody noticed a decline in the number of tasks available for rating recently? Ive been really trying to get as many hours as possible in this month, I log in after taking the kids to school at 9.15and then constantly refresh until 3pm. Then Im back on again once the youngest is in bed at 7.30pm to try again but there just seems to be no work available. Ive emailed them but just get a standard reply that I need to keep trying and they could be available any time. It's driving me mad.

I'd love to know how these monthly "star raters" manage to do 50 hours worth of tasks a month!!

As I recall, tasks would get uploaded at the start and end of the day (US PDT). So if tasks are in short supply you need to be logged in for when they get uploaded and before they run out.

Unfortunately that's probably either the middle of the night or late afternoon UK time.
