Fingers crossed he's just over stretched himself then I guess. Poor you and more to the point, poor him. It really has been one thing after another. I'm sending as many positive thoughts as I can to you both.
Thanks for writing this.:A It is poor him and he really does not deserve all this.

Hi there marshallka.yes she sort of had an op??? The specialist thought it was caused by an eyelash growing into her eye which irritated the cornea and caused the ulcer. However by the time they came to operate both eyes were swollen and shut and under the general anaasthetic they could find nothing wrong. hence a lot of money for no result! The chloramphenicol eye drops are the ones that cleared up her eyes before this we had ones that begin with an O?? tear drop stuff and an anti inflammatory. We were told that the tear drop ones were flushing out the good white cells that her body was making to heal the ulcer so we had to stop using them.
Actually bizarrelly our girl has leg problems too but I guess they arn't related. ;)
Our vet has also recommended vitamin c drops 250mg but just a quarter of the tablet every other day and a human antihistamine again a quarter every two days as she thinks it could be caused by an allergy.her eyes just close and we cannot find out why.It happens approx every month.
Maybe between us all we can come up with some suggestions
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D

Good news, my doggie is walking a lot better today. He was stiff this morning but seemed better as the day went on and walks went fine. He seems to forget when he out walking and then remember when he gets home. We are back at the vets on wednesday evening so may get them to take a look (if he will let them). The eye is still a problem though but he is still taking the meds. Just have to wait and see with that one.

    xx

Been to the vets (now 10th visit or even 11th???) and they did send the culture off and they have found a bacteria which they have now prescribed another antibiotic for called nisamox. They have said it looks a bit better but they need to see him again next week after taking this new tablet. He certainly is not squinting as much although it is still there but at least they have found something now. They mentioned this was actually to do with good bacteria:confused: so just have to give this a try for a week and take it from there. At least things are not any worse.

His walking is ok too so must have just twisted his back or pulled a muscle.

Just an update, his eye is a million times better. He has to go again tomorrow but just look what antibiotics have done. I asked if it was infected some time ago and they said "no". It was us that demanded they try antibiotics after 3 ops and then they did the blood culture and hey presto it was infected and they have worked. I knew that it was infected cause his right eye had healed but he was still scratching (infection always itches) and his left eye had changed colour and gone really runny and cloudy. I know its cost us lots of money and still more to pay but we are so grateful to still have him and him have his sight. Will post again after tomorrow but i am confidentish that the ulcer will not show up so much after the dye. :j

Just have to get out of this debt now..:o

Been again tonight and he has been discharged:j:j:j

They have said its still there a little but he has not got to go back again. We have to now be very careful in walking him and not let him get into hedges etc but there is loads of hope for the rest healing completely as its near enough clear.

I know I have been a nuisance on this thread and others too but I cannot thank enough those that have posted back and pm'd me enough for their support through this. I was going out of my head as he is so much part of our life. I don't know what we would have done if he had lost his sight or had disease as he has other problems anyway and is certainly no candidate for that. I will carry on training and just treasure every moment with him now. We are so lucky.:beer:

A special thanks for foreign correspondent and hethmar too.:A:A

And not fogetting simontheiceman for taking the time to reply too.:A

Well roll on another year and my border has now been diagnosed with diabetes today. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it gratefully. He did not have it in June of last year as I have looked up my post from there in this thread and they DID test when his eye was not healing. I took a urine sample today cause his weeing in the house every night now and thought it may have been a simple water infection but over the last couple of weeks his thirst is enormous and he has become wobbly. The vet took the urine sample and tested it and something should be a maximum 4 (I assume protein cause just googled) my hubby told me and my borders was 13 and other things too and said it was most probably one of 3 things but came back and said he had confirmed diabetes. They have done a jugular blood test to check for ketones but need to read up more on that one. They have given us the dvd on diabetes and instruction book and he is quite certain he has it from just the urine test but he has done the bloods too just to be double certain and then away we go on the insulin I assume. He is 11 years old. He is not overweight at all or was not last year and does not seem any different now but he is getting wobbly when he gets up but still as hyper as ever although he does flag on excercise. In fact he was a normal healthy middle weight for a border. I have stopped long walks cause he just cannot take it.

Anyone that is going through this let me know how you cope. I just hope I can but do you have to go the vets every week etc for weight and checks etc? I did not go with my hubby today but have to go on the next one to learn how to give the jabs. Do they stop excessively drinking the weeing when they are treated? Could it be more than just diabetes as they have not given us insulin, only the pack and dvd and is 13 (urine) bad? SOrry to go on again:o. I do realise that cataracts and blindness go in hand in hand with this disease and it seems so unfair with what my little man went through last year. Has anyone been fortunate and not had their doggie go blind or develop eye probs?

We retook out the dog insurance last year when he had his eye probs before but would they probably cover the eyes now? When he had eye probs last year we paid for every visit and that is what prompted us into retaking the insurance again. It is a completely new problem and although it only covers for 12 months we were told last June when he was blood tested for diabetes he did not have it luckily. Now 14 months later he has it?
