\aw\1 \if he is getting stressed ask your vet if a D.A.P. collar might help (I have put one on my lab for fireworks season)My vet nurse said she used one on her dog when his companion died and he was pinning. Apparently it worked well.
It might just help to relax your dog without the use of drugs.
HTH and keep up the good work!
Just going to look them up for prices. Thanks for that Artytarty. I have heard of them and they are very useful over bonfire season. My little Lhasa hates them and shakes and digs at the floor when they go off. I hate them too cause of pets. I would ban it if I could lol.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

I paid £25 (eek!) for the dog collar(med/large) But I probs could have got a smaller one as I needed to cut off about 5-6 inches of it. Our girl is quite a fine labrador, not as chunky as many!
I think it is very expensive but hopefully worth it. She does seem pretty settled at present but my worry is that the collar may need replacing before the end of the fireworks. Here, ours tends to be celebrated on 31st Oct (Hallow'een) not so much on Guy Fawkes night!

Had the results of the Fructosamine test and its gone up to 620 now. That is the average over the last couple of weeks since starting insulin which TBH is higher than before. They have said to increase to 10 units now twice a day and they will see us in 10 days. They asked if he was wobbly on his back legs (which he is not now) and whether he is unwell at all (which he is not also) and they said some dogs take a while to get under control.

Still no news from Tesco insurance. How long does it usually take?

His BG was 17.3 last night so still high but not got worse. He has now upped his dose to 11 units and then back in 2 weeks for another fructosamine.

Tesco have confirmed that we are insured although not had any payouts yet. At least we can claim so that is a blessing.
  • That's good glad you're insurance is going to pay out. Buddys fructosamine was 475 and my vet said that the would prefer that the highest score would be 450. But he is really happy that he is at that level.

Buddy's seems highish then or is it. WHat is 17.3 like for BG?
Hi Buddy's mum. He is having the fructosamine done again in 2 weeks which is then 4 weeks since he last had it done. They told my hubby last night that it was too early to do it again. It was 620 a fortnight ago but he went up to 10 units and then now 11 units since yesterday. He is going on fine in himself but just a little confused as to why things are not happening quick enough. They have said that they will start to look at other things if its still high again and one being insulin resistance which I don't think it is cause he has stopped drinking quite as much and weeing quite as much so the insulin must be doing something. He has only had one other wobbly do and that was last week in the evening but I think he had had too much excitement (visitors coming and going).

He went through a growly stage with the jabs too but seems to be ok again now. He just raises his head from his dish and expects the needle. We have had some finer ones I think (they are still the same manufacturer) but they actually bend and stick through the cap when recapping them. No good TBH for using again. He does actually prefer them though and they do "look" a finer tip. The vet emptied our sharp tub last night and he noticed the one that had actually come through the plastic (and after into my finger!!) and said about it. He has now given us some of the older type for this batch.

Been again and now his fructosamine is 540 so they have said to up his insulin dose to 13 units twice a day. Still not perfect and in fact its the same as we started off at (even after 2 months of insulin) but come down a little since last time. He has been fine otherwise but wees are still like small streams. He has not wee'd in the house though so thats a plus and does not seem to be drinking as much. They have said it can take 4 months to get to maximum dose which is 20+ units each jab. I hate it now cause the injection has to stay in longer!!!

Buddy's mum. Hope Buddy is going on OK. x
