I hope Buddy continues to be well:). Its so scary for you.buddys_mum wrote: »This is what my vet gave me for Buddy, thankfully i havent used it yet - although Buddy has has a wobbly spell. Just about to go and do a test on Bud now as he doesnt seem right. Test done and he is okay, he just gone out side barking.
Congrats for doing your first test :j, from now on it will be a doddle, trust me. Good idea of your to trim his hair to see the skin more clearly. Hope fully you will notice a differnce in him very soon.
My faithful friend is lying at my feet as usual but sad that I am cooking and he is starving ready for dinner number two at 7.30.... only 2 more hours and then again burgers are near on ready lol.
Poor little doggies aren't they. Will post back after jab number two and hopefully all will go in this time.:o0 -
How did you get on with last night and todays jabs?
Oh bother!!!!
Buddy was outside and the boy (8 yrs) was stroking him (he doesnt live there, just visiting his grandmother). Then when he came in he had a sweetie wrapper in his mouth . I have spoken to the boy loads of times carfully explaining that Buddy is a poorly dog who can only eat certain foods, and that under no circumstances must he give him anything. So i popped over the fence and spoke to his grandmother and when he came back in, oh did he have a guilty look on his face. I said to him that i am neither angry or cross and he wasnt going to be told off, but i needed to know if Buddy had eaten a sweet. He said that he hadnt, but he picked a sweet wrapper. Hmmm i said, 'i will do a test at home to see if he has high glucose which will tell me if he did eat a sweet' again he said that he didnt. 'Ok, if he has, you need to understand that Buddy will have to goto the vets ( a small white lie)'. He bit his lip and still said that he he just picked up the wrapper. So i left him to his grandmother!
I have done 1 test and it was 8.8 which is really good, i will wait for an hour and then do it again. I must keep more of an eye on the dog when the kids are over next door!0 -
I hope buddy is ok buddys mum. Its so hard. Today we had sausage baps and my dog had to watch us eat them and then he had a piece of carrot lol. You have to be careful don't you. You need to get a collar with "diabetic dog" on perhaps. I have seen them on the net.
This morning my hubby did the jab and last night too. He was so quick to do it. I got up to do it alone this morning and got the needle ready and whilst wolfing his dinner I was supposed to jab..but I bottled it and my hubby did it. I don't know why when I just did it yesterday with no probs. I think cause I messed up the amount in pushing the plunger I have lost a bit of confidence. My turn again in a while though and all alone cause I HAVE to learn. I have been practicing on an orange with a used needle. The orange is easy but when it comes to the real thing its much harder. Will let you know later how it went. Hope buddy continues to be well.0 -
Yeah, Buddy was alright. i got a tag and collar for him. If i see him going towards someone and they start going for their pocket, i shout out 'NO' and they dont give him anything, they never take any notice of the tag - but its there if he got lost and then whoever found him would be able to take him to the vets and be sure he gets medical attention . I say to them why and they always say 'ahhh, cant he just have a bit'. I tell them if they are willing to pay for the vets bill then yes. That does the trick!!
I know that if he pinches something its not the end of the world, and there is no need to rush to the vets (depends on what it is). Buddy did steal 5 freshly baked sauage rolls and 2 cupcakes recently, boy he felt ill afterwards. It just seems that every time i see this child i have to explain why he must not feed my dog.0 -
Hi, just an update. Tesco have still not sent the claim form for the insurance. Maybe it will arrive today. We are going well with the jabs. In fact the last couple of times I have put down his dinner and he has looked around as if to say "go on, get on with it so I can enjoy!!". He growls a little but not as much the last couple of times. He is having his two meals a day (halved) and one weetabix with water at about 2 when my Lhasa eats. He has been fine on this and the vet said it was fine. This seems to keep him going and must admit you would not know anything was wrong with him in "Himself". His water intake has got less and I have not had any accidents from him too. Got to go back next Monday for another fructosamine test and this should see if there is any difference. I have not had to do a curve as they are monitoring this way cause of him getting stressed. I hope I don't have to and that he is doing OK on the dose he has now. Time will tell but I can tell he seems fine and alert and also no wobble on his back legs.
I hope buddy is doing ok since the sweetie episode Buddys mum.0 -
Hiya, So glad that Wippie is getting on good. Im sure he knows what you are doing is getting him better, and its good that you are seeing results. Buddy is fine, running around like a 1yr old this morning being stupid as usual. Im in bed with the bloomin flu, might go outside in the sunshine in a minute (sure the sun will dive in).
Keep doing what you are doing, you can only do your best at the end of the day.0 -
I am a little concerned as to my dogs medication being "caninsulin". Don't get me wrong we have not had any problems with it and he is having the jabs fine now and seems to be OK, in fact a few times i am stroking all down the fur thinking he has not growled enough when I have given it to him and have i missed..... its just that reading up on the internet Caninsulin seems to be the UK name for Vetsulin (http://petdiabetes.wikia.com/wiki/Caninsulin) and there is an alert on it here

Should we be concerned here do you think or is it me??? I don't want my vet to think I have no trust at all in his judgements but then again I want my dog to be well .Any comments appreciated.0 -
Well been the vets again tonight (well hubby and son took him) and his blood glucose level was 17. Still high (in fact still quite bad but you would not know it as he is fine in himself now) but down from 21.3 and she said that was good as he was due a jab too. We have to up the dose to 8 units for each jab now but things are looking better. Fluctosamine was 530 last time but have no idea on this one TBH and I don't know if they have done another one???

I use caninsulin, and have done since May. Glad that Wippie is starting to get used to his jabs. If you are concerned about the caninsulin, then speak to your vet about your concerns.0 -
Hope buddy is OK too. Buddys mum, you know how high Blood GLucose should be and it does seem he still has a really high reading doesn't it (but he is totally well in himself!!).buddys_mum wrote: »I use caninsulin, and have done since May. Just another question regarding the insurance. We had the forms back to fill in and we have to give them to the vet to fill also. How do they pay with an ongoing condition? Do they pay the vet or us? We have forked out now for 3 visits and about £150 so far but do we have to keep putting claims in or can we arrange it whereby they pay the vets fees for this condition? I know it asks on the form who we want the money paying out to and I have put me so far as we have actually paid it over already. Seems a bit silly if we have to make claims every week or so as that is how often we are having to go to the vets as yet until we get it under control. It took them near on a week to send the claim form out and each time we have to get the vet to fill in their side of it also so that is going to cost money isn't it?0
