Martin I am in exactly the same position as you with Carjet. They informed me at 7pm (we left at 7.05 for the airport) that they had cancelled by booking due to Auriga problems. This left us at Malaga airport at 3am with two young kids and no car. Eventually we secured one but for a lot more.

Carjet at first said they would reimburse equivilent costs, then changed tune, and now have reverted back to indicting they would repay me.

I am about to send in my claim to them. I will keep everyone informed.
  • I have finally recieved a telephone call from Carjet today! (So much quicker and easier than playing email tennis).
At first I was told that they would only be happy to refund the costs of the original reserved booking, working out at little over £292 by their exchange rate for the euro !? against further incurred costs of £531.
I again stated that I was very unhappy about this situation, and would be pursuing full redress of the claim via my credit card disputes team and also via small claims court (moneyclaim.gov.uk).
Within 5 minutes I received another call from Carjet, in which they agreed to refund the full difference. I then asked the lady to confirm this full refund by email, which she did.
I have now sent all the documents to facilitate the claim. I will keep everyone updated.
  • I have received a cheque from carjet today for the full difference - so fair play to Carjet ..........in the end.

hope this helps any other members in the same position.

Well done.....just shows you that sticking to your guns and not taking no for an answer can do.

I have also received a full refund from Carjet, though I did let them know I was a travel journalist, which smoothed things over!

I sent my claim last week to carjet for the difference of 259 euros booked in Feb this year to 490 euros which they changed my booking to - yesterday I received a cheque for £198, very pleased with the outcome - after very poor communication issues.
My experience with GoldCar in Majorca airport was excellent - no queues and a lovely Ford Fusion- only downside being I was charged 70 euros for a tank of diesel - but I managed to use it all.
    Titch :)
  • Hi folks,

an update for everyone regarding this unfortunate situation we are all faced with!!

We have just received our company rates for the next 12 months and found that the prices have started to settle down abit.

The companies have added an extra season "Premium season" which is obviously July & August. Not great for us all having family holidays in this peak time, however at least the prices are not high for the rest of the year!

It looks like prices are in general around 30% higher than last year for all other periods and although this hurts us all, in fairness our company always thought the prices were on the low side- such as around 65 euros for a weeks hire of a group A.

Another company I have often mentioned is Arrow Car Hire and they are going it alone and having their own cars. The best of luck to them and hopefully some good prices to follow so for anyone who is interested I think they are at www.arrowcars.es If this fails a quick google should find them.

All this information relates to Malaga Airport so sorry if that is not info for you but hopefully it will be the same senario across the board!!

Good luck with your bookings and happy hols/happy business trips/ happy holiday home trips!!!!

I am checking Hertz rates at Barcelona airport every now and then for May, June and July next year as I have two trips coming up. And yes, the last week prices have improved from €380 a week to €270 for an estate car. These are prepaid rates so I am still waiting for a better offer as I have paid around 200 € a week for the last years.

I booked 8 days hire for smallest car with Doyouspain on 5th june for 1st september, I paid 152 Euros, the same hire now is 196 euro, so not as bad as some stories, and the fact they have cars available makes me hopeful that I will actually get mine :T:T

I've just checked Record, who are supplying the car, and they too are accepting bookings
