Spain- Car Hire prices Gone Crazy

Wow things are going overboard with car hire. I always booked with Carjet. Mind you they are just the brokers. I really think its a case of greedy car hire companies cashing in. Carjet always let you pay at time of booking. So it is unusual for them not to have had this facility when you booked. Im flying out in August but will not be hiring a car.I will take a taxi there and back from the airport. and walk the rest. Would not give them the rip off prices they are asking and the fuel policy they adopt.0

Just thought I'd update you - the same thing has happened with DOyouSpain - they are a broker and they have informed their clients and told them they will pay the clients back the difference in their original quote and what the new quote is - apparently Auriga Crown sounds as if it's in financial difficulties and has not bought any new fleet cars so is cancelling all over. I have contacted Trading Standards this morning and am waiting to hear back from them.Titch

I had my booking cancelled and rebooked by CarJet due to Auriga Crown being unable to honour their bookings, went from 280 to 550 Euros but have received an email today saying they will refund the difference - advised it may take up to 60 days after the rental before I get it as they have to wait for confirmation etc from the hire co.
Problem is they are booking everyone with GoldCar now so worried about them running into similar problems -either that or a queue a mile long
still at least they are trying to resolve the problems0 -
An update .... I called Carjet and they sent me a similar e-mail to Karins, however, they have not re-booked me with anyone.
They have offerred to reimburse me "reasonable costs" incurred in securing alternative [and comparable] car hire for my stay if I book elsewhere since none of their suppliers have any stock left.
Their customer service staff seemed genuine and apologetic and stated this was a gesture by their MD [for the 350 or so customers of Auriga who were left "high, wide and handsome"].
Time will tell however if Carjet are anything like as good as I've experienced over the last 6 years of booking with them, I'll hopefully experience few issues. I'll post back once I find out for sure

We just had a week away in Majorca, booked a car about a month ago for £105 for the week, it was a 4 door Fiesta with AC, we used Travel Republic as the agent and they had starting prices from £95 with no AC.0

Hi.
What we are saying to customers, is when you return please email us a copy
of your contract to auriga.ops@carjet.com for us to take a look at for
you.
Thanks

Do NOT use Decode car hire. We booked with them (2 different bookings) and then a day later they came back and said sorry but they have no cars to supply us with for our holiday. Thankfully...we found another place to supply us with a "used" (2003 model) car and to be honest we don't need a 2008/9 car anyways. I sure as hell was not gonna pay €1000+ for a car hire with the outragous car hire fees that are floating around.

I have had similar with both Carjet and Holiday Autos in the past, especially during peak times, or for last minute bookings. Both of those and Decode are brokers, who will have arrangements with local hire companies and will have to confirm availability with them. At least Decode came back to you the next day, HA kept me waiting almost a week to let me down !!0 -
Never had an issue with Carjet but they have gone up in price and had bad service the last time we used them. So we went elsewhere last year. We used Sixt last year and well this time my OH and I are only going for 6 days BUT I also book for my in-laws who will be down there when we go down so need to book 2 cars since we are staying at their home down there

I have to say in all the yrs we've been going down there this is the first year there has been such "chaos" with cars even for summer season for us.

Ooh reading this thread has me really worried!
How do you know who are brokers and who aren't?
We are helping my daughter plan her wedding next year and are researching costs, my OH is disabled and we were planning to book a Vauxhall Zafira for two weeks next August. The car hire websites just show a 'size' band so I don't even know how to find out if I can guarantee a particular car (ie Zafira) and now don't even know if I'm just looking at broker sites!
Help!
When would you reccommend booking for next summer and can you book a particular model?
Who would you reccommend for a pick up at Gibraltar Airport?
Thanks
Sal0
