  • Hi - thanks for all the help with my first post. Much appreciated - one always feels a sense of trepidation on a new site!

I've got another slight "dilemma" now, I suppose. I put in an offer on a house a while back, but then my buyer pulled out so the house I wanted was sold to someone else. Fair enough. I've now discovered that the council have given the go ahead to build a fairly meaty development nearby (these things are following me, it seems!). Anyway, the long and short is - there's a house I like on the market which is nowhere near the development. It's nice, within my price range - the garden aint great but the house itself is gorgeous. It's just not making me go WOW like the other one did so I'm dithering a bit.

OK, so the other one has gone and I can't get it back, but is it likely that as a result of this new development people will put their houses up for sale on that road in the New Year? Maybe they'll be so annoyed they might cut their losses and move and I might get a bargain. Then again, the new development might make things bad traffic and parking wise so maybe I'd like it less than I do now.

SHould I hold out for an unknown (maybe NO ONE will move out) or take what's on offer?

  • Hi 23rdspiral

I bought from my partners neighbour who was always a kind of friend. It really helped with the communication side of everything and it was the smoothest process ever. I would definitely do it again.
  • After giving up for the Christmas and New Year period, OH got a telephone call from EA saying we've got a viewer who wants to come round tonight. :T

Didn't expect this so we'll have to see how it goes; but I suppose it's given me a bit of faith that there are still people looking for flats.

I came out of hospital a few days ago and am still convalescent so when phone rang DH picked it up.

After a few minutes he came up and gave phone to me saying it was the EA.

The EA was suppossed to be phoning a viewer who had postphoned an appointment to view so I thought that was why the call! No! Got about ten minutes of "Blah! Blah- general interest still - low time of year - blah etc."

Did ask him why the worst photo of our house was now the first one on Rightmove and got a load of blather about how RM suggest changing pictures to keep interest and clicks etc. Maybe - if our house was one of thousands of identical ones but the whole USP is the stone built Edwardian frontage!

Eventually I just suggested as politley as I could manage that as I was ill perhaps when they had real news for me or a serious viewer they could call back then and hung up. I don't have the strength or patience for this "marketing!"

Result of "encouraging" phone call to keep me onside is I think they are a load of incompetant cretins who are incapable of folllow through or understanding the selling points of the houses on their books.

Will wait till new year and concentrate on getting better in the meantime then consider talking DH into getting a different agent although I doubt if any of them have a clue.

Good luck! Fingers and toes crossed. ;)

We've offered on a house, the legal stuff is going on now, but if we were still looking we'd still be viewing IYSWIM. OK, we may be in the minority, but you might hit lucky.

Best wishes, and hoping your viewer is interested,

    Good luck with that. :)

We're stuck in a chain, but we have been offered a room at OH parents over Christmas if we have to vacate but if it means getting a sale then we might as well take it.
