Vent! Tesco and carrier bags (and lying staff)

Well, i have a similar experience at my Tesco. They wanted me to pay for bags claiming the free ones had gone. My reaction was dramatic and of cos successful. When i told them to refund all the items and that i wish to cancel my shopping.
Abracadaba....the free bags surfaced..
Dont ask me where from please...0 -
I regularly go to Tesco & Asda and find that they both only give you 2 bags for a belt full of shopping, so I take a leaf out of their book and keep repeating "Can i have some bags please" until they give me enough. I have become quite thick skinned tho as they dirty looks are enough to kill!
If they didnt have any bags I would have no problem with leaving all the shopping on the belt and going elsewhere.
Might be a bit cuttign my nose off to spite my face but I am more than sick of retailers (shops, utilities etc etc) all thinking that because i choose to spend money with them I am dirt and deserve to be treated as such!0 -

I agree
If I am spending over £100 etc, I expect carrier bags to put my shopping in. Our tesco store only seems to have the 35p odd bag for life aswell!0 -
Though i am not advocating this. I strongly feel what i did would work in most cases. Any business would think twice about letting you walk off at the till and telling them to cancel the shopping.
First, it creates a scene and second you hold up other people waiting cos supervisor has to come on the till to refund the items etc.
Surely if someone spends £100, the least you can do is to offer free bags. It cant be that hard for Tesco...0 -
They charged me for replacing my torn bag for life the other week. I never noticed until I was checking my receipt at home. 9p charged but no 9p credit for returned bag. I'll watch out next time!0

the problem lies within u accepting to pay for a life bag, while all other tills around u were still handing out free ones.0

This makes me chuckle as something happened to me yesterday in Tesco.
I went in to get some food in for the bank holiday weekend, hoping tomorrow and Monday will be good for a BBQ or two!
I go to the checkout and i'm offered 3 bags for a rather large amount of food, with additonal dog tins and cat pouches,
Now these Tesco carriers aren't that strong and I was told I could have no more, however I could purchase other bags.
I asked politely again for some more bags, but was told 'no'.
So, I told the miserable checkout woman to stuff the burgers up her fat behind and walked out.
I got home 2 hours later, having been to Morrisons, Asda and Wilko (for pet food) and came online to see how much those shops offers had saved me, and it was approaching £12.
£12 may not sound like much when I spent rather alot on BBQ stuff, but the Wilko offer on Felix as good as it looks made a nice help in that saving and I think I have more burgers/sausages than had I bought in Tesco.
I'm planning on popping back in Tesco sometime to give the old bat a cheeky wave.
I think if we spend our money in these places, we deserve the bags required to transport it out of the store.
Like the OP, i'd forgotten to take my bags for life with me.0 -
I think that's totally uncalled for. She's doing her job, so what gives you the right to call her fat and probably give her a really bad day? Take it up with a manager if you want, but insulting someone who is sitting there for £6 an hour like that is just rude IMO.So, I told the miserable checkout woman to stuff the burgers up her fat behind and walked out.0 -
You all seem to missing the point, we are doing this to help the environment, not one of you has mentioned this.
Having said that I am always forgetting my bags when I go shopping, they are on the back seat of my car and I go in without them.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
