i used to work in a supermarket. Customers would literally take the p*ss. One bottle would require:
20 clear veggie bags, and 8 plastic carriers.

People abusing the system in this way would only end up having to pay for it by increasing prices of groceries.
I once served someone who bought some bananas, and put them into a produce bag. Then they wanted another bag to put that in! Why?!

Although my all time favourite is the woman who bought one bottle, then asked for 2 bottle carriers (which hold 6 bottles each) as her relative had just died and she was going to the cemetery

  • I shop once a week for 4 adults and I have found lately that Tesco want the cashier to pack your bags. I prefer to pack my own bags even though it takes longer - they have to wait for me to unload trolley first. I got used to the hatchet faces after one cashier told me that they are timed on how long it takes them to deal with each cstomer and they get into trouble if it takes too long. Anyone able to confim this?

Fizz, you really should use the longest queue when doing a big shop yourself, that way you have plenty of time to load the conveyor and pack at the other side of the till.

If you still take too long, put bulky items you don't mind how they're packed at the beginning so that by the time you get to the other side you can pack your delicates etc the way you like :)
    I love surprises!
