We've still got a constipated baby, but it's getting worse - she has been crying in pain with it. I assume it is the constipation, not something else anyway. Yesterday she was crying just before she went. Today she went this morning, and was crying for an hour or so around lunchtime, and has been very clingy and unhappy all afternoon, but still hasn't been.

Time to take her to the doctors on Monday I think. I'm going to start keeping a food and poo diary as of tomorrow too, just to see if I can work out if anything in particular helps or makes it worse. Poor little girl :(

weezl im neither just am trying to eat a lot healthier and we have started getting the healthy start vouchers with OH not working at the mo so have stockpiled on fruit and veg and i still have lots of vouchers left!
kids are loving sweet potatoes as baked pots at the mo but i really dont know what other things we can have as im used to meat, veg, chips/pot/pasta and fancy a change lol! have been lurking on your 50p challenge so thought u were best person to ask!:rotfl:

    awwww a lurker! cool;)

erm the govt's so-called healthy start voucher scheme, grrrrr don't get me started...

I do understand the emphasis on fresh fruit and veg, but dried, canned and frozen veg all contain more nutrients per 100g!

anyhow, the best veggie sources of iron would be canned spinach and canned toms, but barring those...I've given the portion size and then the amount of iron in miligrams. You should aim for at least 33mg of iron daily...

    Spinach, cooked 1 cup 6.4
Swiss chard, cooked 1 cup 4.0
Turnip greens, cooked 1 cup 3.2
    Potato 1 large 3.2
    Prune juice 8 ounces 3.0
Beet greens, cooked 1 cup 2.7
    Peas, cooked 1 cup 2.5
    Black-eyed peas, cooked 1 cup 2.3
    Cashews 1/4 cup 2.1
Brussels sprouts, cooked 1 cup 1.9
Bok choy, cooked 1 cup 1.8
    Bulgur, cooked 1 cup 1.7
    Raisins 1/2 cup 1.6
    Almonds 1/4 cup 1.5
    Apricots, dried 15 halves 1.4
    Watermelon 1/8 medium 1.4
    Tomato juice 8 ounces 1.0
Green beans, cooked 1 cup 1.2
    Kale, cooked 1 cup 1.2
    Broccoli, cooked 1 cup 1.1

    HTH!

The reason I say at least 33mg is that's the amount most pre-menopausal women need. I've been reading though that the reason why sadly quite a few close-together pregnancies can have poor outcomes (thankfully not true for you guys) is because at less than 6 months gap between birth and next conception a woman often hasn't replenished her iron store. So I'm thinking it's possible you could be a little low in iron. Sorry if this sounds like medical advice, I am not intending to persuade you of a course of action caz, just sharing what I've read! ;)

MFD thanks for thinking of me with the list, we're formula feeding if that gives a clue as to some of the bits from your list we specially would/wouldn't need!!! Not that you need to tailor it for me, just thought I'd mention :o:D

Thanks to Lu, Fritha etc for the thoughts on the lino/plastic sheeets etc:A

DH has sampled the days baking and pronounced it nomnomnom, so I'm happy :D

    have you tried poo porridge?
its what we use on Danny when he needs to be ... "a bit looser"
we either chop up prunes and put it with his breakfast or make up his porridge with prune juice
doesnt take long before things...ummm progress

I buy organic dried prunes (crazy Jacks) and soak them in water for few hours then wizz them up in the blender. MY LO likes it on its own or mixed in other foods. Also the water that the prunes were soaked in can be given as a drink. This was recommended by Bailey and it definately works for my LO too. Both our babies have been put on medication which causes constipation.
Its not uncommon for BF babies to suffer with constipation when they first start solids. It takes a little while I think for the digestive tract to get used to foods.

I see the news of Edgar made it here! Sounds like everything went well if he was born at 6.13am and Sami was on the net by 2.30pm! Can't wait for piccies.

I've seen a piccie - at half six this morning.. That's dedication for ya! ;) He's a cutie alright! :D Congrats again Sami xx

Lu T, yes Sami was planning a HB - think she only finished her "birthing suite" in the spare room yesterday too so just in time!

It seems like Rhys is joining in with Grouchy Baby Day too :( He's been crying out and wriggling around like noone's business today (due to hunger, we think) - nice and not nice to hear him crying as he's only been able to do it since the ventilator came off :o

He's had to have a few formula feeds (and thrown both of them back up!) today as they started alternating formula with what was left of my expressed milk. Having low supply issues but have seen the breastfeeding advice midwives today and also started taking fenugreek and expressing with Rhys' blanket near me and had two good sessions since so am still holding out hope of getting my supply back.

Trying not to beat myself up abotu it, but it didn't help having a nurse tell me at 4am that "with his impaired kidney function putting him on to formula right now would be the absolute worst thing for him" - gee thanks for that! :(

When I took el to the doc about her constipation they put her on lactulose, I presume she is weaning at the mo, if you give her banana cut them out as I found that, that helped after the doc suggested stopping them.

I've got a sleepy baby today. Woke from afternoon nap at 5pm and she went down for the night at 7.15. That will be her til 7.30ish tomorrow morning then we'll be off out for our morning jount with the dog!! Pooch is injured he has cut his pad so it's flapping/hanging off

Elle Go away we're not speaking to you, it's not fair you've seen a piccie, we're all jealous :rotfl:

Feelie How are things with you?

Caz I agree sometimes it's easier and more convenient (sp) to eat carp!!
