Yes, that's what my baby had, the IURG due to placenta not working. They should be able to rule that out at the ultrasound appt by measuring head and abdominal circumfrance and also carrying out a doppler.

ps the 10th centile is 5.5 lb for a boy baby born at dates, so if the royal college are only flagging up concern at 5.5lb, it seems weird for your hospital to have a 7lb policy!
The other thing I think in these circumstances is that rather than feeling put on the spot to make the case against a particular decision, you could play the conversation in such a way that they have to make the case for it, clinically. That tends to be quite hard for them to do, with you only having to do a few, 'I see, and you feel that 7lb is the weight at which you would need to transfer a baby to consultant care? What percentage of the births in your unit/under your care are transferred for being this low weight?' all said in a very nice way, but shows you're informed and thoughtful!;)

Weezl - you are a gem!
Went upstairs to investigate and called out to Imogen to ask what she was doing. She told me she was tidying the mess I'd made, "It's such a mess Mummy!". I arrive to find her in our room trying to piece back together the half-stripped bed! I've washed the bottom sheet and pillowcases but haven't got round to stripping the duvet cover and I'd left it all in a heap in the middle of the bed. So she's wandering round with a pillow (it takes 2 hands!) trying to put them back at the top of the bed to "make it comfy!". PMSL
Sending magic labour dust Sami. I've been told that 2 drops each of rosemary and clary sage oils in a bath can really help. Don't imagine you've got some lying around but if someone could get you some (Boots was cheapest on the high st when I got mine last week) it could be worth a go? she's made herself sick crying! so now nursing her again. my gut tells me she's a bit young for the begins of controlled crying, but we have to try something to get a. a decent nights sleep, and b. so someone else can put her down - MIL babysitting on sat!
ETA - we have a bedtime routine of bath with dad, milk with mum or dad, cuddles, nursing, sleep.
we have put my pillowcase in her cot so it smells of me too. and we try to catch her signals so she's not over tired, usually we're not bad - either way it makes little difference!
nursing to sleep is eady, but i'm aware that it's creating bad habits for later, it's more the constant waking and inability to resettle thats concerning me....r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Going back to packing, I had a separate list for us and one for each boy, which as they got older I would print off for them to sort their own stuff out.
It had a space for writing down how many of each thing were needed, so for a weekend it would be 3 pairs of pants and socks, 2 t-shirts, 2 trousers, 2 jumpers. Also on it were sunhats, woolly hats, books and cuddly toys, so it could be customised for each season.
I have to count things out by the day, so you'll find me with a pile of underwear going "Sunday, Monday, Tuesday ..."Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Rmac - some aren't a fan, but personally I'd be going with the controlled crying for at least 3 nights to see if you can break the back of this. It's basically a game of chicken that LO is currently winning as you give in first. I know it's horrendous when they are so upset and it also makes you v upset, but staying calm and sticking to your guns is probably the best way to get through. Otherwise the routine will be even more established when you get round to breaking it.
If it's any help Imogen started waking every 45 mins from 2.30am at about 4.5months crying for was losing her dummy. DH was away for the week on a course and I was working (freelance) but actually having to turn up to a conference - great timing! I coped for the first two nights, but on the third night decided enough was enough so when she woke, went in, took the dummy out of the cot and sang Twinkle Twinkle until she fell asleep. It took 50 exhausting minutes, but she never woke to cry for her dummy again.
We also had a policy of not picking her up in the night unless absolutely necessary. We'd lean over the cot, stroke her head/tummy/back, talk, sing, whatever but tried very hard not to 'reward' the crying with cuddles. That was also incredibly hard, but, I feel, worth it in the end.

THanks Weezl - I had already looked on the homebirth UK website but I like the way you'd phrase things to the consultant.
I think for me the key is this 5.5lbs versus their 7lbs and I need to look into this more somehow.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

)
Skinty - best I can find thats official is here http://mrw.interscience.wiley.com/cochrane/clsysrev/articles/CD003481/frame.htmlSelection criteria
1) Design: Randomized or quasi-randomized controlled trials
2) Population: Preterm (< 37 weeks gestational age) or low birth weight infants (< 2500 g) with a clinically or echocardiographically diagnosed PDA
Ps. I am surprised that so many of you know how much weight baby lost in the first few days, ALL babies lose weight in the first few days and here 'they' don't weigh babies until at least 1 week old but usually 2 and are only worried if they haven't re-gained to birth weight.0 -
