    Hi guys

Totally off subject but I just won 1st prize for my beetroot, and 2nd prize for my potatoes, peas and carrots at my local horticultural show and am well chuffed!!

Took Henry to the barbers this morning and he screamed the place down unlike when OH took him last time but at least he has a decent short haircut in this hot weather.....

Tom's hair desperately needs cutting and I'm sure he will scream the place down but we're hanging on to get it cut in Disneyworld. Looking forward to seeing the cast members keep smiling when faced with a bawling Tom in the chair.

    hi all,

emlou - has seth had a bout of nappy rash? my baby girl is teething and i have been battling nappy rash. i thought it was because i had used pampers nappies whicih didn't agree with her, but when i got the latest mailing from boots, the article on teething said about nappy rash being a symptom.

i have been trawling the internet tonight looking for solutions to my baby girl's sleeping problems. i am still taking her for cranial osteopathy. we have had three sessions and i can't say i have seen a massive difference. the osteopath said to give it five sesssions and if there isn't a change by then, then we probably wont see one. there is meant to be an 80% success rate.

however, during my internet research i have come across reflux. now i hold my hands up and say i am not familiar with all of what it entails and i thought it was mainly about very sicky babies.

my baby girl is quite sicky, but not to the extent i thought it was an issue. however, the more i have read tonight, she is ticking a number of boxes - sleeping problems/hiccups/difficulty feeding ... she is very snacky/outburst of crying/wet burps/cough ... now i know it may not be something she is suffering from but am debating a trip to the doc.

she is nursed to sleep and when i try and move her to the crib, or in fact if i move greatly when i am nursing her she springs awake. she is not a baby you can say shhhh and pat her back and she'll go back off, once her eyes flick open, that's it, she's awake.

she sleeps better when she is with me, but she does sleep on her side in the safety of my arm, and i have read that some babies with reflux sleep better on their sides as it aides digestion.

oh, this motherhood lark is soooo difficult (but i wouldn't change her for the world)

Hi all.. Another 16ml bottle tonight then Rhys fell fast asleep in my arms! Try again tomorrow... We did however have some hope with the breastfeeding. Despite not doing it for over a week, Rhys latched himself on to my top earlier () so I whipped off my top and gave him a go and he latched on (with some force!) and gave it a good attempt.. there's hope yet afterall! :)

Feel free to skip the next bit.. I just need to rant! :o

I'm thoroughly p'd off now that we're no closer to having a date for this planning meeting. I know the only thing holding us up is the report from Notts which they thought would be back literally before we were but it's still not back ten days later. I'm on a mission to nag each and every nurse who looks after Rhys who will then have to write it in his notes for the Consultants to see.

What really got to me is that the mother of a baby who is clearly more ill than Rhys - has been in the high dependency room for weeks longer than Rhys was and it still a room before where Rhys has been for two weeks already, and is barely allowed out of his cot - was telling me tonight that they've got their discharge planning meeting date and that she's moving into a parent flat so she can spend some time with her son.. Errr, we've been waiting longer and ours is closer to going home! *sigh*

It upset me earlier because the nurse mentioned Rhys had been wide awake for two hours, playing with his toy arch but then looking a bit bored... If we'd have been there, we could have played with him, or even better if we'd got him at home we could have allsorts of toys out to play with. In the room he's in, he's either got to be in his cot (bored) or in our arms - we're not allowed (anymore) to put him on a mat on the floor and we've got nowhere we can spread out and play with him. Other parents come in and use a flat for a few hours a day to practise breastfeeding with their babies, but because it's not such a priority with Rhys, we're left in the "fishtank" and anytime I want to try him, we have to fetch screens which don't cover much and it's all just uncomfortable and tense (no wonder the poor mite isn't getting it!)..

Anyway, in conclusion, I WANT MY BABY HOME, DAMMIT! *sigh*

Right, okay now.. Thankyou if you haven't lost the will to live yet! :o

I need opinion on play mat type things.. I'd already bought one with two arches over the top with toys hanging down but nothing on the mat itself, but Rhys seems to like tummy time so I was thinking of getting this.. But now I've also seen this. Anyone got either of them or something similar? Any opinions or recommendations? All help gratefully received! :o Thanks again!

Get some once a day stuff! Boots do one (or did one last time I bought any!)

Only don't rely on it to protect you if you go swimming and then sit on a beach with no shade for several hours. Not me - I have more sense than to sit on a beach with no shade, because I once burned my legs to a crisp in the time it took to put sun cream on the 3 boys! - but the 3 boys learned that the hard way last summer. I thought we were going to have to use our travel insurance to experience US healthcare ... fortunately a large bottle of aloe vera gel helped enough to avoid that.

Have been meaning to say that if you ever see sun wipes, buy some. Especially if they are BOGOF or on sale at the end of the season. I wouldn't rely on them for strong sun, BUT if you ever go out on a day which doesn't seem sunny, but then suddenly is, they are absolutely fantastic for giving a speedy once over to any exposed bits. Once the boys were old enough, I would give them a wipe and tell them to do face, ears, back of neck and arms, and they could do that as they walked along.

I know sun cream doesn't last forever (although I'm not sure if it goes off or just becomes less effective), but I have some Ambre Solaire ones and they have NOT dried out yet! I do keep them in an old takeaway carton, so they are well sealed, but even so! Trouble is I haven't seen their like since I bought them. Wonder if I've still got some Pampers ones, and if I have whether the boys would use them? :rotfl:

Oh, and I have a house full again. I don't exactly miss them while they're away, and I definitely don't worry about what they are up to, but I do like having them home again.

AF- the only time Chris has had nappy rash was due too teething or pampers active fit nappies. If the rash isn't clearing ask your pharmasist to get you some Morhulin cream CG told us about it and i can confirm it works like magic :)
Sorry I'm no good with reflux but a few on here are xx

You rant away, girl! However, another possible outlet for your rant could be PALS - Patient Advice and Liaison Service. Every hospital must have one, look on their website. I've had good results from emailing two different hospitals.

It's not a formal complaint, it's a way of alerting them to things which could be done better. And clearly here there are some communication issues.

Until I had a good look at the expensive one, I thought it would only be useful for a short space of time, but now I see it can be unfolded, so I can see its attractions. Having said that, it is possible to go for overkill: once you realise that at baby's first Christmas THE most exciting part of the presents is the wrapping paper, you wonder why you didn't just buy a ream of brown paper and scrunch that up.

And there is virtue in simplicity: that first one will be easy to roll up and stuff in a bag for a very long time, if baby likes it. The other won't be.

Plus will you be able to wash the semi-rigid one? It's all very well sponging things off, but ...

Did you read the reviews on the semi-rigid one? The other doesn't have any, so that may not help much.

Elle the expensive one seem over priced to me. I have a mat/gym from babies r us that has an elephant onthe mat with crinkle bit squeaker and a mirror which went down well with him i paid £15 on offer but I think they around £30 full price...

he has had a little bit of a sore bum between the cheeks (tmi? its a baby it doesnt matter :rotfl:)

if i were you AF i would go to the doctor, seth has reflux and you might as well be describing him with all that. another thing they do is they dont like being laid down when they have just eaten cos the stomach acid is stronger. our doctor gave him gaviscon which has improved the amount of sickyness and wet burps no end, and before when we fed him it would all seem to dribble out of his mouth again, its stopped that too. no luck from the gaviscon on the sleeping better though! although what i have found is that he goes off much better straight after a feed now.
we havent managed to do it yet cos he's still in our bed (but dont get me started on that, its been 3 weeks now and i've not slept properly since!!) but our doctor recommended that we put thick books under the head end of the cot or a blanket under the head of the mattress so his head is slightly raised as it stops the reflux a bit, might be worth a try?

as for the waking the second you move her, how annoying is that! seth does the same thing. i dont know how i'm going to get seth to sleep once he is in his cot as at the moment i can lie down next to him, sitting there doesnt cut it!

we've got this one and i can confirm it is brilliant :D
its got a kicky pad thing that plays music and flashes lights when they kick it, which you can lay down for tummy time and they can bash it with their hands. i've tried 2 other babies on it and they loved it, i was quite smug when the mums said they dont get that excited on their ones :p
it is expensive but its worth it, and i think Lu T has the same one and she got it cheaper off ebay if i remember rightly

Brilliant news with the bottle feeding and the breastfeeding elle :T:T
Feel free to rant. If anyone deserves it, you do. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to not be getting the date for the meeting, especially when you see others around you getting their date.

I will look into that cream Sami if it hasn't cleared up in the next day or so. The nappies were pampers but the new baby dry ones, iin the orange packet.

i will make an appointment for monday. i had read about the infant gaviscon on the net last night and wondered if it would help.

you saying about the milk coming out of his mouth when he was drinking it, my little one used to do that but i have noticed it so much lately. however, she has starting crying out in her sleep for no apparent reason.

for raising them up in the cot/crib there was a website i was looking at last night that sold 'wedges' for that specific reason. that was how i came across the reflux information becuase i was looking at wedges in the idea that if there was some support in the crib, my little one might feel more secure, like she was in my arms.

she sleeps mosts nights in my bed from the earlier hours. i eventually get in into the crib most nights between 10pm - 11.30pm and then baby after she first wakes, but after that, she wont go off enough to be put down in there so i put her in with me. as you say, you dont sleep well and my shoulders ache from being locked into place so she is safe.
