All I know is that motherhood sounds a whole lot more complicated than when mine were little. The advice changed from one baby to another, fortunately my MIL worked in a HV clinic so knew this, together we would shrug our shoulders and I'd carry on doing what worked for me ...

DS1 was born in a very hot summer, HV was adamant he needed to be given cool boiled water to drink as well as my breast milk, which I knew was wrong, but she didn't tell me HOW exactly I was supposed to get it into him when he wouldn't take a bottle (various teats), a spoon (various sorts and sizes), or a cup (ditto, including a doidy cup which was supposed to be fool proof).

In fact there were only two things he would ever accept in his mouth when he was tiny: my nipple, and a finger if that wasn't available.

And here we all are ...

we had lots of disapprovingness over seth's name, ranging from saying it was jewish to satanic to ancient egyptian!
Didn't they ever watch Emmerdale Farm? There was an old man called Seth in that. It's actually a Biblical name - he was Adam and Eve's third son.
Just being sensible really. Chances are I'll have SPD again, so will be unable to walk for the last few months. Need Toby to be big enough to manage with a Mummy who has to sit down all the time! Pre-eclampsia is possible again, was lucky to get to 39 weeks this time, so might end up in hospital again. Would be easier to manage if Toby is in school and settled into a routine. Oh, not to mention the hyperemisis, need lots and lots of naps while pregnant! All in all, pregnancy wasn't that easy for me!
Yes I've been wondering how I would fit 15 hours a day sleep in since Alice usually only has 13 1/2.
What do you have in / on your babies cot?
We never put anything in (except for Alice of course) until she was one. Then she got a couple of toys and flannels but was never bothered about them. At about 19 months she suddenly became attached to a toy penguin and then more recently a cuddly doll too but they've currently fallen out of favour. Since we've moved it can range from nothing at all (with her saying, "No dolly. No Penger [Penguin]. No Lamb. etc...) to almost a dozen toys, flannels and handkerchiefs (the cuddly toys request the handkerchiefs as covers).
I always wash the babies clothes separately - don't ask me why, I've just always done it that way! And I wash whites and colours together (gasp) using 'Colour Catchers'. What an absolutely fantastic invention! :j
Doesn't that mean you have to have loads of baby clothes to be able to save up enough for a load?

    Hi all..

MFD, love that fruit display!! :) Unfortunately I don't think they'll deliver to here but I showed my mum and she suggested having a bash at making one for Rhys' coming home party :)

My my, now if she could do it then I NEED pictures!!

Hubby is currently singing various words and dooby dooby's to the tune of sheilas wheels  We have a lot of made up songs in the MFD household - my personal fave of the day was 'Mummy put her sockies on' to the tune of Polly Put the Kettle on!! :D

Just to jump in on the sleeping on tum conversation:)
My HV told me to put ds2 on his tum. He was about 12-14wks old and I just couldn't put him down or he screamed and screamed, he wouldn't sleep ,and was basically the most demanding, miserable, screaming baby ever born. It didn't really help him sleep at night any better but he did actually settle and nap through the day for up to 30mins a time if he was like this.

Terrible to say this now, but at the time I couldn't care less about the 'supposed dangers' as I was at the end of my tether and wished he had never been born:( I loved him but was not coping well at all.....

I love having older children as I know everything is 'just a phase' and usually doesn't last long(well not too long anyway)

They do both have a ridiculous amount of clothes as my Mum and sisters have a compulsion to buy...but it certainly doesn't take long for my two children to fill a washing basket!
