I just got a fee of £10 to sell a technology item for £100.

It used to cost about 50p to list things and that was it.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it is these days on ebay?
There has always been FVFs but they are now around the 10% mark

...i have paid closer to 16% of the sale price

That's correct when you factor in PayPal fees etc.

But where else are you going to go with the same amount of buyers?

Amazon? They charge 15% for most items (or that's what they quoted me). And they charge the % on the delivery charge as well where eBay don't (but PayPal do!).

What are paypal fees? I am new to selling on eBay.

I know about the 10% FVF (yikes) but am trying to list things very cheaply and make a few pence on postage to save money, is that allowed? I see plenty of 1p listings on eBay!

    Thanks for any advice.

"Postage gouging" is a grey area - technically you can be reported for it, but in reality all that happens is that you get less bids, lower prices, lower search standings, and reduced star ratings - and if they get too low, then you can be retsricted or permanently suspended.

Paypal will charge a fee for the total value of the sale, not just the item price. It currently stands at 3.4% + 20p for a regular paypal account; an £8 item with £2 P&P will general cost 80p in ebay fees, and 54p in Paypal fees - although some categories may vary.

ebay fee structure is here - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/fees.html

Yikes!!! I didn't even realise there were paypal fees, when am I going to get charged these? Is it even worth selling on eBay???

How do my star ratings go down???

p.s. I'm not gouging, just covering my packaging costs!
