I pay upto 36% of the sale price in fees on some of my 99p auctions anyway. Doesn't matter, I know what my costs are and still make a reasonable profit.0

To put that into context you are paying 35 pence.
ebay could employ a more structured system and not be greedy, they supposedly want higher end sellers and larger companies on board , my example was based on selling something in the electronics category, this is a category where demand is high, prices can be generally high but margins are slim, so in context if the figure of 16% that i pay on average does not change, if you wanted to start selling plasma t.v.s for £2,000 a pop you would be paying ebay £320 on every sale, if you invested that £320 in marketing your own website on Google you could at an estimate expect to sell maybe 10 or 20 units for the same cost.
So where is the incentive for a business to use ebay, on the figures above their costs are ridiculous.0 -
i haven't mentioned how much money i made on ebay in this thread so again....what are you rambling on about?0

But the point your missing is eBay is a business too....
They have overheads, people to keep in jobs - just think about their electricity bills?! lol....
Then think of some of the armchair sellers - who don't declare anything to HRMC, who don't pay taxes to HMRC, who don't pay business rates, who don't have employers insurance... Ok, some do but many don't!!
Then think of the "recession" too - and how that would influence sales....... So ebays thinking to it's self - how can i make a bit more money to cover my overheads, keep my staff in a job & keep the internet happy?!
Every business alienates someone at some point - whether it be Tesco putting up the price of poridge oates 100% or your local hardware shop being 5 times more expensive that B&Q. But one thing is for sure - they're there to make money. And for that reason only.
If you don't like it - don't do it!
I sell often on ebay - just bits and bobs, no high value items, just stuff that needs to be got rid of. Been lucky so far too touch wood! But surly as a business you know your costs and cost in accordingly?0 -
I wonder that about you a lot, just wondered do you get of a prize for the amount times you can tell everyone how much money you supposedly made on ebay,
Just wondered
He could start a fight in an empty room - there's a very good reason why there is an Ignore User function in the control panel.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Steve lets not me and you not get into it again, you will find if you read back that i joined this thread about 3 posts in, the op is complaining about the 10% F.V.F, all i did was point out that this figure is not the true cost of selling on ebay, as i pointed out, all told, i pay on average around 16%.
Now that comment is:- relevant to the topic of this thread
- possibly helpful to people like the op who clearly don't understand how the ebay fees system works so that they can understand that in future they should factor in other costs too
- in no way inflammatory and indicative of someone that "could pick a fight in an empty room"
But of course your right, it's all my fault, i'm the trouble causer, i mean how dare i post my view on ebay fees in a thread about ebay fees, i was just looking for a fight obviously...
And it's funny you should mention the "ignore" function steve as that is exactly what a member of the mse team pm'd me to tell me to do with you last time you took to following me around trying to pick a fight and they had to remove a shed load of your abusive comments.0 -
Cyril, I wasn't attacking you in my first post, I was engaging in debate.
I remembered you posting that, and since it was the point I wanted to make, I quoted you in the knowledge that a argument has more impact on a person if they can connect it with their own views. (sorry, at one point I was going to go into psychology, some of it has stuck around. Still, comes in handy when selling
)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0 -

Well, i used the word Attack for want of a better word really, but what i saw your first comment to be was a very critical, out of context, reply to what was, in my view, a perfectly reasonable post to make in response to the op's original topic.
You also made a slightly sarcastic comment about me thinking my advice was worth more than others, which i thought was out of order as i hadn't given any advice, that could also be construed as a personal attack.
And you seemed to accuse me of wanting everything my own way when it suits me, again slightly out of order as i have only pointed out to the op the difference in the fee ebay publicise and the true cost of selling.
And it seems one or two others saw that as their que to jump on the band wagon and take a pop at me and before you know it i'm getting it from all angles, being quoted out of context, being condemned for things i didn't say or do and to top it off, being called a trouble maker..
Seems a bit harsh based on my original post........0
