  • Hello again to everybody who reads this particular thread :D. Apologies I have not posted for some while now but as some of you know I have been somewhat distracted of late due to illness of my fiancee :(. Anyway she is doing really well and is away at her daughters for the week so I have got time to jump back on the pc.

Andrea just wanted to say I hope your coupon spending is going well. ;D I see you found and posted some good coupons from our regular sites. I was going to post about the new ones on mums plus but on the odd occasion I have been able to read the forum I noticed you had got there already.

Cannot recall if I thanked everybody but in case not I would like to thank all of you who sent their best wishes to my girlfriend and I.

To Glad I am pleased you enjoy my adventures at the supermarkets :) - I have had some real good ones recently and will post the best escapade following this, as, otherwise 1 post will become too long. Also a separate post of new coupons that can be used I( again I apologise if these have been posted already but I didn’t see them on a quick glance through and also a post listing all the responses I have been able to obtain from various supermarkets regarding coupon acceptance policy plus a canny way of actually leaving a supermarket richer than when you entered with all your groceries with you (assuming you get a cashier willing to take all your coupons)

Finally in this post to Sarah Saver it still seems to be a hit and miss affair but generally speaking Tesco, Asda and Safeway DO accept coupons regardless of whether you have bought the product or not. But even in the same store each week individual cashiers appear to follow their own set of rules as do supervisor and even managers as one of the following posts will reveal.

Also I have only once been able to use vouchers on internet shopping delivered by Tesco and Sainsburys. Unless it is a code that can be typed when actually placing the order they do not seem keen.

Feels great to be posting again.

    Regards

    LM :)

  • Replies From Those Supermarkets That Could Actually Be Bothered To Reply

    ASDA

    Thank you for your e-mail.

In response to your query we do except coupons whether you purchase the item that the coupon has been printed for or not.

However there are a couple of restrictions. If a coupon specifically states it is only valid at a specific store (which is not ASDA) we cannot accept the coupon. Coupons or vouchers from the ASDA magazine can only be used when the product is purchased. It is also up to the stores discretion how many coupons they except per shop.

On the subject of loyalty cards there are currently no plans for ASDA to introduce this type of marketing tool. The cost of running a loyalty card scheme would inevitably push up the prices of products we sell instore. Whilst we did trial a loyalty cards in some of our stores our customer focus groups showed us that customers prefer "Pounds in their pockets, not points on their cards"

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Kind Regards. Fiona Alcock ASDA Customer Relations

    COOP

Thank you for your e mail regarding coupons. Firstly my apologies for the delay in responding and I hope the following will answer your enquiry.

Co-op will honour all original Suppliers coupons/vouchers that appear in National Press - not photocopies, on pack or part of a leaflet. Unfortunately we would not accept coupons/vouchers that have been printed off from the internet.

Hope this helps and if I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards Brian Moses Customer Relations - The Co-operative Group

    TESCO

    Thank you for your e-mail.

In regard to your main query you do not need to purchase the product in order to use the coupon.

Unfortunately we do not accept any other competitors vouchers apart from there conditional spend ones ie - £50 get £5 off. You are totally correct that our magazine vouchers have to be redeemed against the actual product.

Kind Regards Samantha Bell Customer Service Manager

    SPAR

    Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately we do not have a universal answer for your query. SPAR in the UK is made up of six regional distribution centres, details of which can be found in the Links section of the website.
Therefore the answer to your question could be different depending on the area you live in the UK. Please contact our RDC for your area by finding your area on our map in the Links section of our website or if you wish to reply to my email with the area you live in, I can forward you their address details.

    Kind Regards Sarah Healy

    ICELAND

    Thank you for your enquiry.
Whilst shopping at an Iceland store it is the discression of the
    individual
store as to whether they accept theses vouchers/coupons.

If you are using the home shopping facility (?) I can request one of
    their
customer care advisors to e-mail you with their policy.

    regards

    DeborahMartin

    SAFEWAY

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

I can confirm that Safeway policy regarding the acceptance of coupons, including Internet coupons, is as follows.

We accept valid date suppliers’ coupons for the purpose of merchandise, provided, that Safeway offer product from the named supplier.

A customer may redeem no more than six identical coupons from one supplier, unless he or she is actually purchasing the named product in quantities in excess of 6.

Coupons are not exchanged for cash. The total value of coupons redeemed must not exceed the value of the bill.

I trust that this information is helpful to you. Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

    Kind regards

    Hayley
    Customer Service Department

    SAINSBURY

    Thankyou for your e-mail.

In answer to your question relating to the redemption of coupons\ vouchers, they have to be redeemed against the relevant product stated.

However, when redeeming internet vouchers ,( STY ) it is one per transaction relating to the spend required stated on the voucher.

Hope this is of some help.

Kind regards, Susan Shaw Sainsbury's Customer Services

    BUDGENS

    Thank you for your email.
We only accept coupons for items that have been purchased and that are sold in our stores.
I hope this information is helpful.

  • This Is An Email I Sent To Safeways Outlining The Treatment I Recieved On A Number Of Visits Recently

Further to your kind response regarding your coupon acceptance policy stating that Safeway will accept up to 6 coupons per item even if the item is not purchased and as long as you stock the item I am deeply offended by the way I have been treated recently in your Loughton store.

The following is a synopsis of events in as condensed a form as is possible.

9 January 2004 6.30pm - visited the branch with the response you sent me regarding acceptance of coupons whereby a young lady was kind enough to check with the manager to see the policy was correct. This was duly confirmed and so decided we would be happy to switch our custom to the store.

13 January 2004 6.58pm - bought about £14 of shopping and presented about £11 of coupons (all were different even though your policy says 6 identical ones can be used but I did not want to abuse the system). All were accepted and at this point everything was fine.

    16 January 2004 7.08pm
    - again purchased about £19 and presented £9 in coupons. Cashier was not certain and called supervisor. Supervisor not certain so went to manager with the coupons and your response. He came back to advise they would not be taken. I questioned;

1 - why they were not following head office policy and

2 - why on 9 January 2004 they had confirmed the policy and then on 13 January had accepted coupons and now were moving the goalposts.

I insisted on seeing the manager who came down and refused to accept them even accusing me of photocopying the vouchers (which were in colour I hasten to add and I told him the website they came from). He aslo suggested the response I had from you could have been typed by me and that I could be lying. I told him he was quite welcome to take a photocopy and contact the author himself but he refused. Finally he said he would take one sided internet coupons and magazine type ones only. I asked him if he was going to confirm what the policy was with head office and after some prevarication he agreed and so I said I would be in again in a week or so to find out the outcome.

27 January 2004 6.54pm -  Purchased about £13 of shopping and presented £10 in coupons ALL being one sided coupons and/or magazine type coupons. The same checkout supervisor was on who despite being present the previous visit when his manager stated his 'rules' insisted on referring up the line again. I was kepted waiting an unacceptable amount of time and finally he returned saying none would be accepted. After some disagreement yet again he said he would take 1/3 of the bill in coupons and when I asked if this was yet again a different set of goalposts and would they now be following this new set of 'rules' he simply said that he would refer up the line each time I visited.

Now I find this totally unacceptable. I have a copy of your policy clearly stating the coupon acceptance policy. Even if a store refuses to follow this policy I find it quite amazing that 1 week coupons are accepted, the next only certain ones after being treated very shabbily and the following week complete refusal DESPITE the same store and staff being there AND following the 'set of rules' laid down the prior visit.

Also I am fully aware that other Safeway stores DO follow your policy so am bewildered as to why there seems to be such a renegade attitude at this store and also I am most displeased at my wasted time and my embarrasment of the whole thing being playeout in front of other customers.

I would be very grateful for your constructive comments and also what reparations will be made in regards to me being called a liar in front of other customers.

    What an absolute palava ;D :D:)   :( >:( >:(

    Cheers

  • How To End Up With More In Your Pocket AFTER A Visit To The Supermarket

This actually has worked for me. eg

Spent £13.74 and paid £13.50 in coupons. However one of the items was the Ainsley Harriott tea bags wich were £1.48 so send off the receipt to reclaim the money and I end up £1.24 better off than when I went in because I have paid 24pence at the checkout but getting the £1.48 back minus the 24pence leaves me with that £1.24

I have done this a few times now and the Kaliber one is great. You see if a store only lets you pay a percentage of the bill say 50% well lets say you spend £15 wich includes £3 for a Try Me Free offer this increases the amount of coupons you can use BUT you get the £3 back from the product provider ;D

Blimey I seem to be thinking more like Martin every day :-/

    Cheers All
