Have a look at the notice displayed behind every Customer Service desk in Tesco.... clearly states it there althugh I guess it varies as to how strict they are with it!

This is crazy. Do they want to sell the stuff or not. What business is it of theirs what you are going to do with it once you have bought it anyway.Having said this I have often bought more than 10 of one item and never had a problem. Is this something new they have brought in?

because if they have an offer on and run out because someone buys 100 they get bad press/complaints as theres none left
so the liimit allows other customers to get a look in
also a lot of times it businesses that are buying in bulk,so are technically rivals of tesco buying from them rather than the cash n carry

they dont have to enforce it but having the rule allows them to make a call on it when required

I completely agree with having limits on advertised special offers to ensure everyone gets one or they would have a lot of angry people! But what I was buying was a standard regular line (they still sell it now) with plenty of stock!

I work in retail but thankfully my employers dont do any advertising so we are more than happy to sell in bulk as the quicker it goes out of the door the quicker the money is in my stores tills!!

Tesco policy has now changed and the notices behind CSD should also have been changed. The decision is now in the hands of the store manager except on certain promotions when it is printed on the advertising and shelf edge labels.

In our local Tesco today there was an offer on vegetable oil and the number you could buy changed from 6 each, to 2 each and then up to take what ever you want. When it went to you could have as much as you could pay for all hell broke loose with people fighting over the bottles of oil.
If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 7555

No we are not talking about items that are on special offer, I can understand that.I am talking about normal everyday items such as the OP posted. If there is a sign saying maximum of so many per customer I accept that, but to get to the till and be refused is wrong.

I often wait untill there is a special offer on cooking oil to stock up for use in topping up my deisel in the car. They always set a limit on oil so I just go in 3 or 4 times a day until the offer is over and buy the max, remember till staff change often and paying cash they can't log who's buying.

Its to stop corner shops buying the entire stock and selling it at a mark up. You all must have seen them with the trollies. I know I have plenty of times in ASDA. ASDA never seem to refuse the custom even if the shelf has been emptied.

I saw them stop a couple in the ASDA near me a Christmas, they had 3 trolleys full of the 2 for £7 tins of Quality Street and Roses and were trying to put them through the self service tills at about 2am. They got pretty shirty when the staff pointed out the clearly displayed policy of 3 per customer.

Does anyone know if there's a stupidly low limit (ie. one) on lemons and limes at Asda. Whenever I've bought more than one lemon or lime I've had to get it approved as well as having to put them through one at a time.

I wonder if this is something to do with EU regulation and the Codex Alimentarius?
