Tesco Maximum purchase

I went into tesco this morning and by chance noticed they had clipboards in. (not what I went in for!!) I needed quite a few of these and havent seen any anywhere (apart from staples at nearly 4 quid a go!!)

There was loads on the shelf and I took 24 to the tills among some other things. The cashier looked at the clipboards, then at me with a rather scathing look and asked me if there were any left on the shelf. I replied yes loads, do you want me to get one? thinking she meant for a barcode or something. She simply turned and said I was breaking the "10 product rule". Nothing I have ever heard of before! Aparently if you want over 10 of one thing in Tesco you have to specially order it!

She called a supervisor over who just looked at her and said of course I could buy them.

Is this a general policy does anyone know? If so do they have it displayed anywhere?

I wouldnt normally be bothered by it but it was early morn and she was one of the only tills on and a queue was building up behind me and I was embarrassed!

All for some bloody clipboards!:rotfl:

It isn't really related, but when we go on holiday to a really big campsite (specially hired for this week-long event), the local Tesco limits purchases to a maximum of 6 of any item.

Our local Tesco has a 9 product rule. It's displayed with hand written notes on the shelves.

I've bought more than 10 of 1 item loads of times in tesco never heard of this!

You would think tesco would want to encourage people to buy more items!

Maybe they got confused with the 10 items or less/fewer till..

That can't be right? What if you buy more than 10 tins of dog food, or pop?
I think they make it up as they go along?

I know they sometimes limit special offers and things which you see on the sel or other pos, but these were just normal, nothing special clipboards!

I thought the same Barneysmom, what if you were having a party or something, cant you have pop or wine, or sweets? Think they may just have been cranky coz it was early!!!!:rotfl:

I regularly buy 12 - 24 bottles of wine from Tesco.

There is no limit to these and they give a 5% discount on 12 bottle or more - considerably better than my local offy offers.

They DO sometimes ask me if I am over 18 and I like that.

    Tescos - every little helps....

Off topic - but you get the 5% off on 6 bottles or more. (wonderful if you buy 3 for £10 on their wine fair and choose the more expensive bottles cos the 5% comes off the original price, not the offer price!)

We buy 18 bottles of flavoured water a week as we drink a ton of it, along with 12 cartons of Tesco 'pure' orange juice (they all come in the box, I just take it off the shelf!)

There's no indication of any maximum purchase rule in our local store (a Tesco Extra).

  • That's what I ALWAY tell my partner when we are shopping and that's the TRUTH!

So you HAVE to buy 12 bottles or more of the lovely Vino Collapso to get discount....
