I supposedly settled my student loan a few months ago. However, I logged into my account today and saw that I still have a debt of 59p. The one-off payment system will only let me pay £5. So do I need to do anything? Should I ignore it? Pay the £5 and hope they'll reimburse me? Or will they eventually just ask me for the 59p?0

If you drop out you have to repay the proportion of your maintainance loan according to how long you attended . As you only atetnded a couple of lectures you are required to repay the whole amount.
Repaying based on your income only applies if you complete the course.0 -
Hi - please help!! I've been refused a tuition fee loan which I expected because I have previous study. In my view there are extenuating circs and good reasons why a loan to me would be reasonable and they should use their discretion and say yes. I just need to find the bit of the regs that tells me they have some flexibility and I can write my appeal.
I have UG degree and a PG diploma previously for one vocational career. Had to leave that career to care for disabled child. Now back in full time UG study for another totally different career -the degree is mapped against a specific national registering body's qualification accreditation and leads to a degree AND a totally separate professional registration so it isn't like any other UG degree and is really unique. I never received any funding previously. It isn't possible to go back to my previous career as it isn't flexible enough.

This would seem to apply.

You’ve studied before
You’ll usually get student finance only if you’re doing your first higher education qualification - even if your previous course was self-funded.
However, you may still get limited funding if, for example:
you change course
you leave your course but decide to start again
you’re ‘topping up’ a higher education qualification, eg you’ve finished an HNC, HND or Foundation Degree and now want to do an Honours degree
you hold an Honours degree or higher level of qualification and start a part-time Honours degree in engineering, technology or computer science (or a joint Honours in 2 of these subjects)0 -
My triplets will be applying to university starting Sept 2016. Any idea how our household income is assessed? Tried reading the Loan, Grant & Tuition Fee Rates for 2016/17 but got lost in the 46 pages therein. Please help!

ungsheffield wrote: »Hello,
Can you please advise on the following situation, I recently received a letter from SLC, stating I owed nearly 500 pounds from CCScollect stating they were instructed to recover the amount detailed.
Now I have received no previous contact from SLC and had gone to their website I believe once (over a year ago) to declare I do not receive income above the threshold (I am living abroad and am not a UK national).
It looks like I had not declared income for all the time they required and they instituted automatically that I pay back 100 pounds a month, they assume you make enough to pay this if you have not declared. I tried calling them repeatedly and could not get through to anyone and the only response I got to my emails was that they were routed to the proper department.
I checked my account on the site and it is now showing owing 600 pounds, they seem to be adding 100 pounds each month and I am at a loss at how to address this.
I should say they claim to have tried to contact me repeatedly, though they have my correct address none of their letters have reached me except the last and they also have my correct phone number and email - which I am certain they have not even tried to contact me on. Also can you just claim you have sent a letter to a different country and proceed to award such large fines, the postal system in Bulgaria is not something you can exactly rely upon, especially given the letters weren't even recommended, just ordinary mail.
The issue here is I feel like I am being fined for being poor and uninformed, I am not hiding any revenue and this is not a fine I can frankly repay. Is it reasonable for them to expect this given the fact I don't even make the threshold they require, can you advise what are my options or who I can turn to for advice.
Thank you in advance.
Have you contacted the telephone numbers on this page?
http://www.studentloanrepayment.co.uk/portal/page?_pageid=93,6678653&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
The link'overseas thresholds' part way down the page goes to a page which gives details of the income threshold for each country and does explain that if you have not submitted proof of your income you will be charged a fixed amount.
You can only sort this out by contacting them0 -
Hi
My wifes ex-company has gone bust and even though her wage slips state that she has paid her student loan each month, it turns out that the company never paid the money to the tax office and now the Student Loan Company is chasing her for the outstanding debt even though it was deducted from her wages via PAYE each month.
Does anybody know who is actually responsable for this debt and is there a legal framework for dealing with this? The company has been wound up by administraters and it appears the situation is in limbo with no party taking responsibility for it.
Thank you.0 -
Hi We live in Wales so student loan systems are very different to England or Scotland. Do you know anything about partial cancellation of student loan / debt that is being offered by the Wales Gov0

Hey, i have alot of Knowledge of how the student loans procedure works. If anyone needs any help, i can advise as much general info.
Obviously i cant divulge into specifics due to Data Protection and the fact that i'd get fired, but anything i can help with, just let me know.
Are there questions on the student loan form about childs income?0 -
Hi,
I attended university 2006 - 2010 & like many accumulated a debt, I have been abroad for the previous 4 years (informed student loan company) however upon my recent return I have received a letter from a recovery agent (transcom) requesting circa £4k payment (not full outstanding loan balance).
I have recently started working again & student loan repayments are currently being taken from my pay at the applicable rate for which I have no query with.
However I do have a query regarding the £4k seeked by Transcom, I am presuming the SLC sold a proportion of my loan to Transcom for which they are now actively trying to recover, however am I liable to pay this element of the debt in addition to my current payments to SLC?
Is my logic correct in assuming the debt has been sold? Or do SLC still own the debt and it will be satisfied by my current monthly repayments? Which will be in around 3 years?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
