Can anyone help with this please?

Student loans have nothing to do with credit rating.
You apply for tuition and maintenance loans and grants through student finance england here:

    http://www.studentfinance.direct.gov.uk/portal/page?_pageid=153,4680119&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

You get 1/3 of the money when you start. 1/3 at January and 1/3 at Easter.

ok perhaps someone here can answer the question.

last year 2008/09 my daughter applied for the loan and we parents sent our details of, which meant she was entitled to a small portion of the loan changed to be a grant....

this year 2009/10 my daughter has applied for finance again, but for a reduced amount,

am i right in thinking that we wont be able to provide supporting details to see if she is entitled to a grant again due to applying for a smaller amount?
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

Yes she can get grant. Its based on 07/08 again as well. It will do it so that X of the loan she appllied for will be replaced by Y of grant. I can't remember the values of X and Y but she will get some grant, just not as much as she got last year.

ok thanks, the next problem is last year she got an alias id, which she gave to us to use on our supporting application.

this year she hasnt been given one, we have double/tripled checked her application details, but cant see where she as omitted to tick or put yes for parental support, which i assume would trigger an Alias id to be created
hence the need to t ry and contact SLC

She should be using the same ID as last year....

You log in, and apply for academic year 09/10 which will be on the front page as she logs in, rather than register again.

yes she used the same art id (or customer reference code)

but last year she got an alias id (different code)
which we then used for the parental support
but this year she hasnt been given one.

she has just heard from someone else, that some LEAs are assessing student support using last years figures for reapplications

    is this normal.
i have emailed the local LEA student support.....

They are using the finance from 07/08 as they are changing the system.

Oh I see what you mean, I don't know about that as I don't get grants and shizzle so not used that.

I would say ring up SLC but they are pretty crap um,

    Phone number 0845 300 50 90

    Good luck!

If your daughter logs on to her account, she should be able to click on to her application to see an application summary. Under summary links there is a link called Sponsor Details. If she clicks on that she should see the Alias ID at the bottom of the page.

As lokolo says, the SLC is using last years details for this year for ease while they change the system. This means that when you log on to give your supporting details all it's likely to ask is for you to confirm there has been no changes to your income/circumstances and also that you give permission for your details to be used again for this year's application.

:confused:We are proud parents of twin boys at different universities. Our combined income of just over £60k mean that we are entitled to nothing in terms of available grants. Is the threshold still the same if you have two children staying away at university at the same time?
    Thanks in advance
