    Hi SLCWorker

My DD has applied for her student loans etc today (first year) and then I filled out my part. At the beginning it said to get info together P60, living expenses etc. Well I've completed the forms but it did not ask me to enter anything to do with expenses as such. Have I gone wrong somewhere. Also how accurate is the Student Finance Calculator.

I sympathise with you totally. I too am going through the process with my daughter. Must admit documents that I have sent generally have all come back within a couple of days(barring one lot which still have not appeared)

You can resit your password at the login page if you have your ART ID. Click on the forgotten details button, it'll take you to a page which asks for your name, date of birthday, place of birth and email address. Fill them in, select the option for renewing your password/secret answer and fill in your ART ID. Shouldn't take long for you to recieve details on resetting the password/secret answer via email.

What sort of expenses are you thinking about?

I completed details to support the application and I was asked to send some documents to them (do they really need proof that I was divorced 15 years ago?). I sent this off but there has been no acknowledgment and the information online is not at all clear, they also suggest that information has to be sent to my local authority (what/when?). There is no way to contact them that I can see and all it says online is 'waiting assesment'.
Is this typical and should I be concerned?

They need to know you are divorced so your ex-husband's income isn't taken into account. It doesn't matter if that happened 15yrs ago or last week. Your comment about sending information to the LEA concerns me slightly - where did you send the information about your divorce etc to? All the evidence sent for my application last year went to the LEA.
Waiting assessment is the normal status for when the application and evidence has been recieved and it is waiting for someone at the LEA to approve it.
I don't know about your account but your son as the applicant for the loans can send a message to the Student Finance England via his account - there is a link to send a secure message. If he's concerned, he can ask if the evidence has been received and whether any more information is required.

Hi, I need regarding an issue I'm having with the SLC.

I was meant to get my loan in on the 20th however, when I checked I was told that it was an issue with the system and that it would be solved the following day. The following day I checked my online SLC account and the status was changed to blocked. I called the SLC about this and they claimed that it was an issue with the university sending an electronic signal to release the loan and that I should call them to confirm my attendance.

I called the university about this and they said that I was indeed a student and they would get in touch with the SLC. A Week later I was told by the SLC that the issue was because I was repeating my third year as a part time student. The thing is they have known this since September and it wasn't an issue then and they paid the first two installments. I was further told by the SLC that the money will be released on the 8th May.

I called the local education authority and while they seemed to agree this is when I will get the money they said there is also the possibility that it may take a further 5 to 6 weeks and that I should convince the university to call the HEI helpline who would release the funds straight away.

I called the university last Friday and they told me they had contacted both the HEI and the SLC and that I should check back today and the status should be changed. Of course I have done this and there is no change and the SLC tells me the 8th.

My issue is that I am worried that nothing is going to get done and it may take the 5 to 6 weeks that the local education authority suggested. Is there anyway to sort this problem? Any help will be appreciated.

Hiya - I have a question regarding my loan. I have been making payments via PAYE since July last year - and upon checking my balance on the SLC website the last calculation took place on 31/03/2008. Is it simply a case of waiting for the IR to release my payments to the SLC or is there something I should do to facilitate this?

    Many thanks,

    Laura

HMRC have to collect the details from your employer then pass these onto the SLC. This only happens once a year and is probably quite a lengthy process. I'd give them quite a few more months before querying.
