Is anyone else getting fed up with their student finance application for 09/10?
I filled in the paperwork as a continuing student in February, got an email stating that I do not need to provide any further evidence and the application will be dealt with shortly. Two weeks ago (ish) I checked the progress to find that it now said that it was waiting supporting information. My husband finally managed to login on Monday and was just asked whether I was his only dependent. My application status yesterday was back to 'awaiting assessment'.

Today however I have an email from the SLC saying I need to provide evidence for my application and that if I logged on to my account there is an evidence summary of what I need to provide. Have just had a look and there's no such thing. I've gone through everything and nothing requests any evidence at all. I've sent them a message so hopefully they'll get back to me soon but I'm generally getting fed up. Just glad I was nosey enough to check, as they didn't even send a message to my husband asking for his supporting evidence.

I get fed up with it every year. The stupid ART number system. Why can't we just make our own logins, at least then I won't lose/forget it every single time I go to login.
  • OMG JoeBloggs, I'm in exactly the same position! Well, my husband is. He belongs in the post 1998 bracket, and has definitely been earning over the threshold for the last 5 years. His payments should be taken automatically from his employer but, like yours, they never have.

While I'm happy to have the £150 a month extra, obviously, I know a friend who was threatened with a CCJ unless he started paying his loan off, so I'm a bit worried about that.

Hope you get some useful replies!

Glad to know I'm not the only one!

Mine is so high that if I was paying the minimum it'd be nearly all interest anyway so I'm happy not to be paying it - although of course I would if they noticed.

I just don't want them to come out the woodwork and claim I owe them 5 years worth of payments in one go.

I find it a bit unerving when they display the slightest hint of efficientness...Lol

Hi all, i am currently stuck in a dead-end job and i am seriously considering going back into full-time education to gain a degree in hopefully Physiotherapy, or if not sports coaching.
The only problem is i am 27 and currently have a mortgage to pay with the usual bills etc.
How much could i be entitled to in grants, bursaries and loans etc??

    Any help would be appreciated!

You can use the student finance entitlement calculator HERE
to give you a rough idea of what you are entitled to through the SLC.
It may be also worth looking into NHS grants which you can find information about HERE
You may be able to get funding to be a sports coach from Sport England, depending on what you want to coach. Some information can be found HERE

Don't forget that most students work part time as well as study and don't have to pay council tax.

The simple answer to this is no and you will also have to pay the full economic fees for a second degree, rather than the £3,000 that you pay now. Sorry.

Just in reference to the Physiotherapy student, you have to apply to the NHS for their income assessed bursary. The only support you can get from the SLC is a reduced rate maintenance loan.
  • Hello,
    Hoping someone can help?
Ive applied to do a foundation degree in teaching in September, and will attend college so many days a week, and be at a school for the rest.
Will i be entitled to the student loan?
I know ill get half the grant, but it doesnt seem fair for me not to get the loan, as i wont be able to go if i dont.
The college aren't being very helpful, and student finance won't talk to me until i can remember my ART ID.

    Thanks!
