Hi SLC, really hoping you can help me here! I have finished my degree this year and going onto do my PGCE, I am now living with my partner. The guidelines look like I cannot be classed as an independent student due to the three year thing and not being married. But my parents do not support me and without the grant im really going to struggle. Is there a way around this so taht i can be means tested on my partner rather than my parents as they earn over the barrier, yet i do not get anything from them nor live with them. How would i go about it?? I have been working part time throughout uni so supprt myself.
Thanks0 -

Explain to your parents and ask them to support you? Maybe they would consider giving you an interest free loan?Proud to be a MoneySaver!

The only way round it is to marry him before the start of the year! If this seems a bit extreme (which it should) then just accept that you'll have to look to your partner and your own resources for financial support.
You must have managed financially for the 3 years of your degree and this year you'll have the PGCE bursary and someone to share the bills with, so you should be much better off.0 -
SLC, could you answer this. How much detail do you have to go into proving you have suported yourself for 3 years?0

Does anyone know if the "repayment of teacher loans" RTL scheme applies to teachers in the public sector or only to teachers in the state sector? There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0

Sally, you need to demonstrate you've self-supported yourself by means of full time employment for a period 3 years prior to the start of your course. P60's will be required, and you cannot have been in full-time education during the 3 years.0
