It seems to be that the carb 'addiction' is linked in to PCOS, as I crave bread and stodge too....Some days are harder than others to not lapse, but on the occasions I have, boy have I felt gruesome, both physically and mentally :( I'm keeping a journal at the moment and when I am tempted, I re-read how yuk I felt, and so far so good.....

The journal is a good idea Kittikins. I find that I struggle to resist temptation more when I am tired. It helps to identify your low times as it helps you devolop strategies to deal with them.
  • Wow I go to work and you all come back :j Nice to see you all here.

Alpha, So sorry about your diagnosis. I indeed have the dereaded pcos too :( Thsi diet does work for me and have been the only one. Although I have dippy weigh ins, so one week I will have a huge loss and the next not so, even though I have done the same thing to a t  To be honest with you since being on ths diet my hair has stoped falling out as much and my periods have started. Excess hair hasnt stopped though  Lovely nice time ahead with your move, do keep intouch and keep cd'ing. It does work just takes longer than people without.

Alpha people with pcos are sensitive to carbs anywyas so I will be doing a low carb diet forever too. Its because our body cant controll its insulin levels. Usually a body will store gycogen and a small amount of back up fuel (enough to run for 5min) from the cabs we eat. Because of our hormones and insulin levels our body keeps all carbs (as gycogen) and they are then turned into fat  This is why I couldn't have bars

Duncan, Thanks for you pm, just haven't replied :o Glad you had a lovely holiday. I think 11lb gain isnt too bad as I guess 4lb of that is water, it will be gone in no time. Have fun at the wedding and I look forward to seeing you next week.

Kittikins, :hello: Please stay LL is nearly the same as Cd anyways, would love more company...

slobs, Hello and welcome to the CD thread. If you have any questions that arnt answered tonight come back but your CDC should have all the answers. Tea and coffee is allowed as long as its black, sugar is a no no but callorie free tablet sweetner is. Good luck with your journey and post whatever/whenever we have talked about it all on here :rotfl: My tips are water, distraction techniques and early nights, for the first week at least. Once you hit ketosis you will be fine.

Maz, Yep this place hasnt been deserted yet. Felt mighty alone these past few weeks though but hey  Good luck keeping in your target weight and getting into size 12!
  • Hi guys, am new to posting here so please be gentle! lol,

I am currently looking into Lighter Life, but a friend said to look at Cambridge too as it was very similar and much cheaper!

So i guess i'm looking for some advice please - is there much difference? what's the price and time frame of Cambridge? - went to a LL info session tonight, they said minimum of 14 weeks, 4 food packs a day, £66. Does CD have weekly meetings etc like LL? Or can you buy on the internet?

I appreciate that vlcd arent the ideal and certainly not a long term thing, but perhaps as a short term boost as a kick-start?
I am 5ft 1, weigh 22st currently, have IBS (am worried that these food packs are going to worsen the IBS symptoms) and suspected PCOS, - so several reasons to get a kick up the backside really!

Sorry for the rambling, but any advice will be well received.

    Many thanks,

    Hi Tracy :D

There isnt a big difference between them both but CD has more flavours and options than LL and is cheaper. But there are no 'big' meetings. You can only buy CD through thier counsellers (CDC) who has also gone the the CD jounery. You used to be able to buy them on ebay but that has come to a stop now. I have 21 shakes a week and am 1inch taller than you and that costs around £33 unless I have a fibre supplement (£4.95) too. Obviously if you have bars/tetras (pre packed shakes) it will be more expensive but I have never payed more than £40 a week. There are no weekly meeting with CD its more of a one to one session with you CDC where you are weighed measured and your picture taken at points. You can also discuss more personal things as its just you and them.

Any VLCD will kickstart weight loss but I plan to use CD till goal which in total could be 9months in total. Its certainly an expensive route but it works and thats why so many do it. Also because of the maintance plan that is avalible the amount of people who keep the weight off is very high on this plan.

Because of your weight your bmi will be too high to start CD straight away. You would need to get a form signed by your doctor, however I am sure you would need this done for LL too. Its simple enough and I just booked an appointment with my doctor. I cant comment on the IBS, however with CD you dont produce a lot of waste so going to the loo is sometimes tricky and also painfull (in some cases). Thats why CD supply fibre89 as a supplement but you can also use physlium husks and other fibre supplements. If you keep the water up however you certainly be fine. A lot of us have PCOS on this thread and for me it hasnt decreased the symtoms I want but it has kick started my periods. However I am just losing weight for me not due to medical reasons/needs.

At your weight you would be expected to lose a stone a month. Due to my PCOS I have only lost 3stone 2lb in 14 weeks so I am a little slower but only 4lbs (so one week) behind. I have ages to go yet so I will be on this thread for a good 5months+ so if you do join either please come and post. Its good to have a support network. Also a lot of people use minimins too who have dedicated boards for CD and LL.

Take care and good luck in your journey :j

Hi Tracy - I'm a LLer, so can give the LL option - yes, it's very similar to CD, fewer flavours and does cost £66 which is more than CD. What I've found hugely helpful though are the group counselling sessions, I know I have a problem with my attitude towards food, using it as a crutch in difficult situations (eg. ex being a winker, feeling like I've got horrendous PMT) and I think I've learned a lot in my 124 days of doing it so far.

I'm 5'8" and on 17th April weighed in at a hefty 23 stone 6! Today I'm 16 stone 10lb, so have lost 6 stone 10lb. I've had a few days off for family events etc, but am still flabbergasted at having lost so much weight so quickly.

I feel so much better for it and realise that I had IBS-like symptoms. My PCOS symptoms seem to be much lighter now as well, so whichever option you choose, I'd say GO FOR IT!!

Like PAP, I'm planning on being on it for the long haul-ish. By Christmas I hope to be back in the world of real food or starting to get back into food and making sensible choices. I'm hoping that by then my BMI will be nearly healthy or will be.

I'm really enjoying being on a VLCD and what I also like is that whilst there are loads of scare stories around, I am being checked once a month by a nurse at my surgery, who takes my BP and pulse and were I to have any concerns or show signs of my body not coping with it, they'd let me know sharpish.

Good luck and keep us posted :)

So..met with councillor yesterday and started the plan last night, so far so good.
Got about 3 stone to lose in total.
Chicken and mushroom soup for evening meal was great and porridge for breakfast today wasn't too bad either, really suprised as I was expecting to hate most of the stuff.
Not feeling hungry yet, but could do with some advice - going out for meal I can't get out of on Sat and no idea what to do about the food.

thats great slobs well done! the first few days will be the worst with hunger pains and headaches but its just your body going into shock lol some people dont even experience it so fingers cross you will be one of them!

i dont like anything other than the soups (just!) and the porridges so stick with 3 porridges a day although DH has made me a strawberry mousse last night which was quite nice so might try the mousses in different flavours.
