The new HSBC PLUS visa debit card arrived today and it is good. So goodbye maestro. It doesn't say visa debit it just says VISA like a credit card symbol and at the top of the card it says debit.

  • LOL, when was any bank a democratic?

Visa pose numerous complications; for instance their decline rate is double that of mastercard, some travel agents still class it as a credit card and impose a % fee (trust me they do cos they done it with my old halifax debit card - the one that has debit card in huge writing in the corner!); they are not accepted in cuba where I go all the time, they are in essence a huge part of barclays who I cannot stomach - no offense to you but the bank you work for stinks.

Other than that I can't be bothered to carry on listing the con's with Visa.

Why do you go to Cuba all the time?

Thanks for that N.I.D, I have had my HSBC Maestro card for years now, it has always been accepted everywhere that I have been, mainly Europe and America, I have never had any security issues with it fortunately.

I too will be looking at NatWest when it expires/gets replaced with Visa.

HSBC dont issue maesto cards anymore they issue visa debit cards now.

Yes, I am abundantly aware of that, indeed that is my very reason to leave HSBC once they replace my Maestro Card with a Visa Card.

LOL, if he's read the thread he'd have seen us speaking about this and our choice to go to Natwest/YB when they change!

My new card did come last week but HSBC told me both stay active for 45 days - so i'm using both. I rung to pay mortgage yesterday with the new visa debit and it actually went through so i'm a little happier cos that was my main concern that they mistook it for visa credit card!

anyway, as hsbc are messing me around now - Natwest here I come......
