but the visa cards do not, whether your plus or not, but like i said you could ask for a cheque gurantee visa card but when you get it, you wont be able to tell the difference.

I dont know why HSBC dont show the difference but thats up to them, I just work for them, lol

So if you ordered a new card after 7th January 2009 you would get a visa card with no cheque gurantee rather than your maestro cheque guarantee card, so if you insist on having this gurantee make it clear to them that you want one

I hope that makes sense now :)
I received a non CGC Visa in January when I first asked. Sent them another message asking for a CGC and they gave one with £100 on it. It had the hologram whilst the first one didn't.

Of course the card has to show that it is a cheque guarantee card ... otherwise no-one will accept it as one!!

So how does a shop tell the difference?

If I take an HSBC Visa Debit card (which does have a cheque guarantee facility on it, but nothing to show for that) into a shop, and try to guarantee a cheque with it, surely the shop will just turn around and say no, because there's no hologram on it?

TBH, Iv never had this problem! As I had a maestro with no gurantee but shops still accepted!

When the cards were first introduced in Jan there were some issues with issuing the cards to some customers but noT all as everyone wants a visa card as maestro and solo are practically useless (solo worse than maestro)

Barclays removed their hologram too! but i cant speak for them

Thanks for that, but I am one of the few people on here that actually prefers my Maestro Card to a Visa one, when my Maestro expires, I will probably change banks away from HSBC.

i have been told there will be no noticable differents between the non cgc and the cgc! I have not even issued a chegue gurantee card myself since Jan and no one hardly ever used cheques. I'lll be popping into work tomorrow so I will be claryfying the matter for you guys!

TBH i'm the minority then cos i'm fighting to keep my Maestro card! In the UK Maestro is accepted all over, as popular as Visa and I have 4 visa cards!

The shop shouldn't have accepted it to guarantee your cheque with then. The shop keeper was probably so used to all maestro cards also being cheque guarantee cards that when you presented one that wasn't they didn't notice the difference and accepted it anyway.
