Kazmeister - I think you'll find you've got my DS there - they must've been swapped at birth LOL

realistically though a dot-to-dot or baby steps approach might work. Pick one area/issue (I would go for the floor tbh) and insist everything on it is rehomed or binned as appropriate. And focus on that for a few weeks while she devlops the clean floor habit...

Thanks for the responses so far.

I have tried to leave it but we now have the contents of a make your own bath bombs box on the floor - the red spillage is the dye from it which is still wet, there are chemicals on the floor and some of the bath bomb mix is slarred all over her piano stool. She doesnt close her door and I worry about the dog eating something and getting poorly. I have told her that her clothes will only be washed if they are in the basket and brought out to me and when they are clean I leave them outside her door. There are currently about 3 piles of clean clothes being spread about the room including school dresses which if they get red dye on them I have told her she will still have to wear. The biggest problem is she doesnt care :o

Well I'm going to have an ice lolly in the garden with the kids then finish the front room - oops and go and rescue the roast meats that I out in and the pinger went off ages ago

kaz maybe do something nice for you ds for keeping his room clean - like bake something for him or buy him something nice or take him to the cinema.
encourage the good behaviour ;) - make a big fuss of it and don't let dd join in!!

well, dh and i had an hour in the garage ... not what you lot think now :p
we came out with 4 boxes full to throw and 1 box to go on freecycle and lots has been sorted - the only problem is it all needs proper cleaning  (all tools and gardening stuff and camping and bike - australia is very strict on any soil!!!) - so we need to get a pressurer washer from some where and lots of jays fluid  - oh and 48 hours in the day please :D

agree with Mozzy about rewarding your DS - might spur her on.
Regarding the spillage - explain that if the dog eats it, then it could be very ill or die and also it would ruin the floor if not cleaned up. No pocket money then and extra chores to pay for the new floor.

Someone remind me why I decided to start a family

Mozzy - ru emigrating? You don't want to take any nasty UK surprise with you! I see you are from Abertawe - I used to live in Pembrokeshire and Cardiff. Hope the weather holds so that I can spend some time on the Pembs beaches in little over a week!!

LOL, Kaz your DD's room looks just like my room used to when I was living at home. Nothing my parents said or did made a difference to me. My excuse was that as I cleaned the rest of the house and did most of the cooking, by the time I got to cleaning up my own room I was too tired. Which was true, but it used to drive my mum mad. I should have made more of an effort.
What annoyed me the most was that when I did tidy up or clean up my room I used to get mocking sarcastic comments that embarrased me and made me not want to clean it again.
Now I have my own place, I can see why my parents were annoyed with me for being messy, and I do try to keep this place tidy as it's far nicer. I just didn't really care when I was at home.

I do agree tho that you need to get her to clean up anything that might make your dog ill.

Kaz ~ I have a 25 year old whose room is much worse than your wee daughters!! I just don't go in his room and tell myself when he finally does leave it will be a fumigation job:eek:........his two younger brothers 15 and 12 share a room and are actually much better at keeping it looking reasonable.
I do agree with rewarding your son for keeping his room looking good, and I think your home has really lovely fire places:D

And just to add my own gruesome used sanitary towel story...when we moved into a rented house many years ago, I was giving the bathroom floor a clean and saw something behind the toliet pipe....picked it up, and it was a used sanitary towel.....first and only time in my life I have poured neat bleach over my hands.............

And back to flying, two youngest have just pulled out the furniture in the middle room and vaccuumed underneath it for me :T.....so I've given them a new frisbee to go out and play on the allotments with....Off to give my kitchen floor a wash and put on some muffins for tea.........
