Our local catholic high school is excellent, and one of the things that struck me most when we went to look round it for DD (we are not catholic, btw) was that there were a good number of children from non-Christian households whose families had also chosen the catholic school because it respected faith and had many of the same "values" as their own faiths have.
So, maybe it is worth looking at them after all?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I agree with hypno - I wouldn't automatically rule out catholic schools... They do give priority to ethnic minorities still tooAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

After speaking to OH he doesn't want DS going to any religious school, he wants him to go somewhere that teaches all religions without any bias. We will keep an eye on things and will apply for a good local school we found, its quite far so i dont know if he will get in. If that fails OH will win and it will be off to private school.
We may be able to make an overpayment this month OH has been doing some overtime again, ill update when the money comes through. OH's tax is one of the botched ones weve not had a letter through yet but luckily i noticed the mistake in april, as the changed his second job tax code to BR instead of 0D (or something similar). We contacted them at the time and made sure we kept the money seperate while the got it sorted. they changed the code back last month and have asked him to fill in a self assessment for last year? no idea why as both jobs are PAYE. At least we can earn some interest while we are waiting to pay it back.

That is excellent progress on the weight loss, especially as it has just been done by healthy eating rather than being on a diet.
I was one of those who was taxed wrongly, but again I spotted it a few months ago, so was able to put it right (hopefully) at the time. I do hope I don't get a brown envelope from HMRC with some sort of "pay up" letter now - it really is a sorry state of affairs, especially when people are finding things hard enough, and in the run up to Christmas etc.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I need to read up properly on it but I heard this morning that they are planning to charge people 3% interest while they are paying the money back! Dont they realise its their mistake.
We have to sit this weekend and to the self assessment tax form, never done one before so we are not looking forward to it.DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -
according to Martin's news on the right hand side of the page, the 3% is only if you don't pay up within the requested time period, which I think is at the end of the 2011/2012 tax year.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
