I have been on a lovely shopping trip today, It was my 30th birthday a few days ago and I was given £100 from my parents with the instructions that it was to be spent on clothes! I spent £25 of it and got some jeans, and 2 tops from the next sale. They are a next 18 which pleased me as next clothes seem smaller than some of the other shops I go to so i'm hedding the right way. The next £25 will be saved for a size 16 outfit!
I have a chicken casserole in the slow cooker for tonight. Im glad I put it in this morning, I took DS swimming for the first time today, my arms are aching from holding him in the water for an hour and I cant be bothered to do anything now!DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -

Saz, I know it sounds really silly, but it really got me down for about a week when I turned 30. I dont know why, I think it was probaly due to other stresses rather than the 30 milestone.
Hypno, I think we wont be far apart for our debt free date, how much longer do you think it will take? Are you planning anything when you get there or will you just sit down and work out your mortgage overpayments! I have to admit im really looking forward to being able to save up to pay off a lump sum when our 3 year fixed is up. we currently just overpay by the 20% that hsbc allows us.
Good news on the debtbusting front, OH had done lots of locum work over the last 18 months and had never been told that he was entitled to holiday pay. It worked out at just under £2500 after tax. We have sent £1200 to his parents as some work really needed doing on their house roof and they need a new fridge. There is also £100 of that so his mum can go out and buy gifts for their festivle like our christmas which happens in october. We have paid £1000 off the debt and the remainder will be our spending money for centre parcs in september.
I have cooked a cauliflower curry this morning for tea tonight which has cost under £2 to make. Tomorrow we are having roast lamb, which i cook in the slowcooker but I only need to supply the veg etc as my mum bought the lamb over this morning. so another cheap day food wise.DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -

Bah to feeling carp after turning 30 - I turn 40 later this year and hope that I don't get one of my famous low patches afterwards....! I hope you feel better now!
Good news indeed on the extra pay for DH and for the vitamix. Things are looking good for you, and yum to the curry and the lamb.
I will be debt free at the latest by the end of May, but of course want to have it done and dusted before then.....we shall just have to see what the universe has in store for me between now and then!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi lunar - great news about the holiday pay! It is lovely when you are in a position to help someone else out too isn't it!
So does that mean you only have £5K to go now....?

We are actually on track to be debt free for christmas, £4000 to go and 4 paydays as they always give december pay early. We need to keep an eye on spending though, we have a holiday in november which we have money set aside for and then there is christmas plus lots of birthdays to account for.
After lots of debating and research we have also decided to send DS to a private school. The good local schools here are catholic, OH is hindu so we wont be getting a place there. The other schools have terrible reports and reputations. It wouldnt matter if DS takes after OH as he would have got top marks wherever he went to school, he went to a very poorly funded school in india and won a scolarship for his medical degree where he was one of the top graduates. I on the other hand struggled through school and i think a stricter enviroment and smaller classes would have really helped me, my teachers couldnt control the class and never got any teaching done.
We worked out that we can afford it if we have 2 children and have looked round several schools. We will formally apply and meet with the headmaster again next month. The school we like goes from nursery to a levels and classes are capped at 20. Looks like we will be watching the pennies for the next 20 years at least!DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0
