New Baby Sleeping: In Own Room or In Your Room???
Comments

I'm not a parent but have been the neighbour in a terraced house with a newborn next door. I just couldn't ignore the comments! I can't believe anyone would post such nonsense! "have some consideration?" How do you teach a newborn to have consideration! For goodness sake get some earplugs if you really live in a house with such paper thin walls!0

Do what feels right for you. Try it both ways, then do whichever feels best. Personally I got no sleep with my son in the room with us. Either way you'll probably get up to check the baby is breathing so its whereabouts will make no differnce. The best advice I ever got was "listen politely to all the advice you get & then do just what feels right"0

How do you suggest they be more considerate? Should babies be gagged from birth. :rolleyes:0 -
DS1 went into his own room around 3 months as he was sleeping thru and we slept sounder being apart.
DS2 was in our room til 7 months ish (despite sleeping thru the night from a week old) as we hadnt got round to getting a new mattress for his cot yet and also cause he was going into his brothers bedroom and we wanted to make sure he wasnt going to be disturbed.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -
I had my baby in our room until he was about 7 months old. They say it reduces the risk of cot death dramatically having them in your own room and it's also a lot easier when they are little and waking up for feeds every few hours. I would have worried myself to death having them in another room I liked to be able to hear him making little noises.
I Never knew that...how things change
mine stayed with me till they slept the night 6 weeks with one and about 4 yrs with the other...tho he still doesnt often sleep the night but at 11 he just reads a book a 3am:rolleyes:0 -
Mine stayed with us until about 2, mainly due to lack of space.
We live in the end terrace and we were/are a noisy household. Luckily our neighbours have put up with this for years (and I do appreciate them for this). However, on the flip side they are now old, gone deaf and create far more noise than we do and they are likely to do so for far more years than we did!0 -
You've got to do what feels right for you. Read all the comments, try the ones you fancy and see how you feel. Go with whatever works best for you.
My eldest was in our room for two nights, but I didn't get any sleep when he was next to me. He made snuffly grunting noises all night, and I just sort of dozed thinking he was going to wake up in a minute. Once he went into his own room, I got proper sleep between feeds and I felt much better mentally. I felt it's better for baby to have a happy refreshed Mammy, than a stressed tired zombie Mammy. My second and third went in their own rooms from birth and have been fine. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Mine were in between 9 - 11 months. The time over 6 months was due to us not having got round to decorating their nurseries. I followed guidelines re being being in same room as we had lost our 1st in pregnancy and I knew if something happened I would have blamed myself for not sticking to advice. However I was able to sleep with a baby near to me and not be disturbed by any noises they made. I did used to wake up randomly and check for signs they were breathing, but I think I'd have done that anyway so it was easier for me to check from a dimly lit room to their cot rather than get up and go look in another room as that would wake me completely up and I have difficulty getting back to sleep if I've worken up too much.0

DS went into his own room at 7 months. He was used to that room as it was where I changed his nappy, got him dressed, etc. I cried the day I put him into his own room, he however slept soundly! The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0

Our baby is 10 weeks and still in our bed, he's not slept away from us yet, I'm happy for this to continue. He does have his own room, but we've not bothered decorating it as he'll be in our room for at least 6 months - if not longer.,___,
