I'd like to see what other people's view are on this. I know what the receommended guidance is (6 months), but more want to hear from people's own experiences.
Do you think that the baby should sleep in the same room as you or should it have it's own room from the word go? How long did you have your baby in the room with you?

I had my baby in our room until he was about 7 months old. They say it reduces the risk of cot death dramatically having them in your own room and it's also a lot easier when they are little and waking up for feeds every few hours. I would have worried myself to death having them in another room I liked to be able to hear him making little noises.0

The recommendations are there for safety reasons... A baby will often forget to breath, hearing a parent breath can trigger their own reflexes... If they're in a room on their own then they won't have this trigger...
My daughter was in my room for 9 months... My next baby will probably be in our room for a lot longer seeing as we don't have a spare room...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

I had my daughter with me until she was 2 but there is a long story behind that sufficed to say when my son came along we did things rather differently he was in our room until his sleeping pattern had settled ie he was sleeping through most of the night and not waking for feeds then he went into his own room i think he was around 4-5 months:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

I had all of mine with me for at least a year. Some of that was down to lack of space but i wouldnt put them into their own rooms until at least 6 months.“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0

Same here. Only I had my daughter in our room until she was 5yo due to lack of space.
But even when we had room with the other 3, we had them in our room until they were at least a year old.0 -
Both mine went into their own rooms about a week after birth. I was fully aware of the guidelines but I just couldn't sleep with them next to me. Too much snuffling and noises going on.

Both mine were in our room, mostly as it was so cold.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving, Gardening, and Crafting boards.

With our 1st, she slept in our room until she was 4.5 months old. She was a noisy snorer, as was DH and between the 2 of them, they kept waking each other (and me!) up! With our 2nd, we put him in his own room from day one but we took it in turns to sleep in his room until he was 6 months. We did this for so that at least one of us could get some sleep and DS was used to his room from the start.
Pesonally, I wouldn't put a newborn in a seperate room because of the cot death research findings. Also, like has been said its much easier to deal with a baby waking up if they're in your room, particularly if you're breastfeeding.0
