Hi,
I can't see this elsewhere, I have been thinking about making rooms smell nice naturally. Especially as someone once told me they read an article about how bad shop air fresheners/chemicals can alledgly be for some people's health.
I know about vinegar and baking soda but was also considering getting some nice coffee beans and placing them in a nice dish in the bathroom.
Has anyone got other ideas?June £10 per day: £182.40/£300

It's not really homemade, but I buy really strong scented candles and just leave them on top of my bookcase, or on the side of the bath or whatever. It really is a noticeable smell, without burning them at all. It's subtle and lovely :-)0

For room scenting during the summer months, grow some sweet peas. From my one pack of free seed which I sowed last October in toilet roll middles, I've got a whole wigwam of beautiful sweet peas in the garden. The thing about sweet peas is that they flower loads, but as soon as the flowers go to seed, the plants are over, so you need to keep on picking them. I'm finding that a little bunch of these in the lounge & kitchen scent the dowsntairs beautifully. What could be cheaper or less-chemical? Shall definitely be growing some more for next year.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

I've noticed my house isn't smelling too fresh. I only noticed after I'd been away for a couple of days, I suppose you get used to it when you live there but goodness knows how bad it smells to visitors!:o:eek:
What's the best way to get it smelling fresher, and to keep it that way. I tend to hate artificial air freshener tyype things but will consider them if I have to..0 -
Bicarbonate of soda with a few drops of essential oil or fragrance oil in a container and shake it up. Sprinkle all over the carpets and leave for as long as you can (hour or 2) then vacuum. The bicarbonate takes any smells from the carpet and the oils will help to fragrance gently.
Bicarbonate can be bought cheaply in bulk from Asian food stores.

Slice a some fresh lemons, place in small bowls & pour some boiling water on them. Dot them around the house.
They leave everywhere smelling lovely & lemony.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
I always think if you have those artificial smellies indoors you're trying to cover something else up,... just open up the windows and doors and exchange the stale air in your house for fresh... if you do it every day you'll never get that horrible stale smell and even better ITS FREE!!#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Yup, another one saying to open the windows! Especially in the summer I will more often than not leave the kitchen and the bathroom window open a crack (but still shut so that no one can open it and climb in!) 24 hours a day.
Once a week, maybe once every 2 weeks I'll throw open all the windows wide for a couple of hours.
Hoovering helps with the smell, unless your hoover is smelly in which case I will wipe or wash the hoover out and leave a little bicarb in the bagless bit.
Friends of mine use perfume they've been given but don't like as a room spray lol. I've also bought a big bunch of lillies at Tescos which smell beautiful and also look great which makes the house smell lovely too.0 -
I always have my windows open. I just use the lemon juice thing as an extra when we've had fish or curry.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0
