A box of matches. Every time someone smellies it up, strike a match, and hey presto, all the nasty pong is burned off
If that does not work for you for whatever reason, Asda smart price aerosol is 29p and works just as well and smells just as [STRIKE]chemical[/STRIKE] nice as the more expensive ones.0 -
Yep - open window!
Some swear by a match - not so good with ds but oh could use that method.
Otherwise, pure essential oils will work out much cheaper than aerosols and MUCH healthier too - just pop a few drops in pot pourri or on a tissue stuffed behind the radiator. I would recommend tea tree oil (antiseptic and antifungal so perfect for bathrooms) mixed with either pine, lemon, tangerine, orange or lime for a bathroom. Your local health food shop should sell them. If not they are easy to find online.
Hope that helps.0 -
I don't use anything and havn't done for years and years.
OH's Mum sprays the stuff around like its going out of fashion. When I've been there and she's sprayed it (that sounds bad dosn't it) I really couldn't smell it five minutes later.
However, that said, many moons ago when we lived in a different house, the porch always smelt abit odd. Like an house which had been shut up for years. I used one of those standy up type things (not the sprays that you walk by - they hadn't been invented then) You can see the inside and its usually pink or blue. You can still get them now, about 60p I would have thought, these worked then.

You could also make a nice room freshener spray by getting a spray bottle, add some vodka, about a quarter to a third of the bottle (yes really, it disperses the oils) add your favourite essential oils and top up with water.
You can make a pillow spray like this to help you sleep using chamomile and lavendar oils0 -
I haven't used aerosols for a long time as both my tropical fish and snakes are sensitive to air borne droplets.
I have loads of cheap incense sticks / joss sticks (very 60's I know but can't help it). Buy them for about £1 a pack in the market and you only need to burn for a short time. Also burn in a hallway and they permeate the whole house.0 -
I remember Kim and Aggy recommending some fabric conditioner on light bulbs so the smell permeates when turned on. I've seen some posts on here recommending essential oils for the same thing.
However, with the new energy saving bulbs that dont get as hot as the old ones, I'm not sure how effective this would be.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
I never use them. I either open a window or light my oil burner with a few drops of an essential oil or one of those fragrance oils from the Body Shop. Their Christmas 'smell', called Cranberry Joy is gorgeous, sort of berries & orangey....................oooh, just thought, it might be reduced by now if they are getting rid of their winter stocks.....shall have to go in & look.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
2) To read 100 books (36/100) 3) The Shrinking of Foxgloves 7.7kg/30kg
